Though man should try to take our prize,
By guile or cruel might,

We'd suffer all that man could do:
God would defend the right.

3 We won't give up the Bible,
But spread it far and wide,
Until its saving words be heard
Beyond the rolling tide;

Till all shall know its gracious power,
And with one voice and heart

Resolve, that from God's sacred word
They'll never, never part.

HE praises of my tongue
I offer to the Lord,

That I am taught and learn so young

To read his Holy Word.

2 O Lord! this book of thine
Informs me where to go
For grace to pardon all my sin,
And make me holy too.

3 Here I can read and learn

How Christ, the Son of God,
Did undertake our great concern:
Our ransom cost his blood.

4 And now he reigns above,

He sends his Spirit down
To show the wonders of his love,
And make his Gospel known.

5 O, may thy Spirit teach,

And make my heart receive

The truths which all thy servants preach,
And all thy saints believe!

PRECIOUS Bible! what a treasure

Does the word of God afford!
All I want for life or pleasure,

Food and medicine, shield and sword!
Let the world account me poor,
Give me this, I need no more.
2 Make me richer than the miser
Doting on his golden store;

Teach me, Lord, and make me wiser,
Make me rich, for he is poor:
Jesus, give me in thy word
Food and medicine, shield and sword.

SECTION VI.

JUDGMENT.

P. M.

VOICE shall soon be heard,

And all mankind attend,

The great archangel speak the word,

And time shall end;

The solemn day unknown,

By Prophets long foretold,

When Jesus on his great white throne

We shall behold.

Then shall both great and small

At his tribunal stand;

For God himself shall send the call

Through every land:

The seas their dead restore,
The graves obey the call,

And death and hell appear before

The Judge of all.

3 Then Adam's numerous race

Shall every one appear,

Before the great Creator's face,
Their doom to hear;

93.

1

The books be open'd wide,
Which all their deeds contain;
And then shall sinners seek to hide
Themselves in vain.

4 But saints, with glory crown'd,
Shall Hallelujahs sing;

For whilst their flowing joys abound,
They'll praise their King;

They'll at his footstool fall,
And with one heart agree
To praise a Triune God, to all

Eternity.

P. M.

DAY of judgment, day of wonders!

Hark! the trumpet's awful sound, Louder than ten thousand thunders, Shakes the vast creation round! How the summons

Will the sinner's heart confound! 2 See the Judge, our nature bearing, Clothed in majesty Divine!

He who longs for his appearing

Then shall say, "This God is mine!"
Mighty Saviour,

Own me in that day for thine!

3 At his call the dead awaken,

Rise to life, from earth and sea:
All the powers of nature, shaken,
From his awful presence flee!
Careless sinner,

What will then become of thee? 4 But to those who have confessed,

Loved and served the Lord below, He will say, "Come near, ye blessed, See the kingdom I bestow;

You for ever

Shall my love and glory know."

THOU awful Judge of quick and dead,
The watchful power bestow;

So shall I to my ways take heed,

To all I speak and do.

2 If now thou standest at the door,
O, let me feel thee near,

And make my peace with God, before

I at the bar appear.

3 My peace thou hast already made,
While hanging on the tree;
My sins were on thy body laid,
And punish'd all in thee.

4 Ah, might I, Lord, the virtue prove,
Of thine atoning blood,

And know, thou ever liv'st above,
My Advocate with God;

5 Receive the answer of my prayer,
The sense of sin forgiven,

And follow thee with loving care,
And go in peace to heaven.

THE day of wrath, that dreadful day

When heaven and earth shall pass away! What power shall be the sinner's stay? Whom shall he trust, that dreadful day? 2 When, shrivell'd like a parched scroll, The flaming heavens together roll; When louder yet, and yet more dread, Swells the high trump that wakes the dead; 3 O, on that day, that dreadful day,

When thou shalt rouse the slumbering clay, Be thou, O Christ, my joy and stay,

When heaven and earth shall pass away.

SECTION VII.

HEAVEN.

P. M.

AROUND the throne of God in heaven,

Thousands of children stand,

Children whose sins are all forgiven,

A holy, happy band;

Singing, Glory, glory, glory!

2 What brought them to that world above, That heaven so bright and fair,

Where all is peace, and joy, and love?— How came those children there, Singing, &c.

3 Because the Saviour shed his blood
To wash away their sin;

Bathed in that pure and precious flood,
Behold them white and clean,
Singing, &c.

4 On earth they sought the Saviour's grace; On earth they loved his name;

And now they see his blessed face,
And stand before the Lamb,

Solid comfort when we die.

Lasting as eternity:

Then my bliss shall never end.
