The said John Doe on the 6th day of January, 1897, at the village of Northport, in this county, not being under the rules and regulations of [the Department of New York, Grand Army of the Republic],1 an organization of ten years' standing, within the State of New York, entitled to wear or use the same, did unlawfully and wilfully wear and use a certain [badge]2 to be under said rules and regulations worn by members of the order of [the Grand Army of the Republic],1 to obtain aid and assistance within the State of New York, and so wearing and using the said [badge]2 and with the intent and for the purpose aforesaid, did then and there unlawfully and wilfully solicit food of one Richard Roe.
