could of the Charborough country, but also to avail myself of every opportunity of purchasing property in his own hunt, and (if occasion required) opposing him there. * * * This step I should never have adopted had Mr. F. resigned to me the Charborough country. I would submit that no man ought to trample on the rights of another; and, therefore, I was forced, in justice to myself, to retaliate, although repugnant to my feelings as a sportsman so to do. I beg to state, that ever since the year 1833 (when I first kept fox-hounds), up to the last spring, 1841, I have always signified my willingness to come to any fair arrangement; this, 1 am sorry to say, has never been met by Mr. Farquharson with a reciprocal feeling. *** In my subsequent purchase of the Holnest property, it was to be expected Mr. Farquharson would have paid me that attention, as a new proprietor which is usually done on such occasions. Had he done so, and shown himself liberally disposed, I should have been ready to have met his wishes, as I had previously shown in the instance of my Folke property; but, after waiting nearly twelve months, and not receiving this common courtesy, which, as a master of hounds, he must have known was due to me, in the spring of 1841 I drew my covers in the Blackmoor Vale, on which a meeting was called of the members belonging to Mr. Farquharson's Hunt, who condemned my conduct. At length, after a protracted correspondence with his committee, I offered, as the last alternative, to leave the whole question to be decided by two gentlemen, chosen by each party, independent of the county, and their decision to be final. This proposition was also declined. I think a cause must be very weak indeed when its advocates are afraid to trust its merits to the impartial judgment of four unbiassed and honourable men. Having now tried every effort for an equitable arrangement of my claims in vain, I am determined that nothing shall deter me from drawing my own covers in Mr. Farquharson's country. He has only himself to blaine; and I again repeat, that if my rights had been respected, this 'proceeding would not have been adopted." Thus then, it appears, that after eight years of wrangling, discussion, and dispute, the parties are as far removed as ever from an amicable adjustment of the question. That the evidence here brought before our readers will bear out our original opinion, that there is " some wrong on both sides," we think all will allow. Why Mr. Farquharson should persist in the great wrong of refusing a reference, we are at a loss to guess. We can only express our earnest hope that this "great scandal" to a noble sport, will soon be brought to some more satisfacttory conclusion. 12 W r7 57 N 13TH Cam. T. beg.
