OKLAHOMA PHARMACISTS.

Sixteenth Annual Meeting of the Oklahoma Pharmaceutical Association.

Guthrie Filled With Enterprising Pharmacists and their Families, May, 9, 10 and 11, 1906.

President A. B. Clark's (Oklahoma City) Address was a practical document touching upon statehood, increase in membership and attendance, N. A. R. D., A. Ph. A., cocaine legislation, board of pharmacy, traveling salesmen's auxiliary and other timely topics.

The Next Meeting will be decided upon by a commit.J tee which is to confer with a similar committee from the Indian Territory Association. In event of statehood, the two organizations will unite and hold but one meeting in 1907.

New Members were elected to the number of twentyfour. In Oklahoma, as elsewhere, it seems difficult to interest all of the pharmacists in the local organization.

The Travelers' Auxiliary of the Okla. Ph. A. has as its prime object adding new members to the parent association and in every legitimate way fostering the interests of the pharmacists in Oklahoma. The officers

are:

President, J. L. Carter, with Alexander Drug Co., Oklahoma City; vice-president, W. W. Rucker, with McPike Drug Co.; secretary and treasurer, Hite Watson, with J. M. Wyeth & Bro., Philadelphia, Pa.

Among other members present were:

The Papers and Prizes.-Oklahoma pharmacists not only write papers, but they read them, listen to them and discuss the subjects. In this respect, they are ahead of some of the Eastern organizations. Among the papers presented this year were the following:

"Suggestions for a New Pharmacy Law in Statehood," by W. S. Samuel, Pawhuska.

The A. Ph. A. Received Much Attention.-F. B. Lillie reported as delegate to the 1905 meeting. He presented an exhaustive document which is a model for delegates from other pharmaceutical associations. The report was well received and discussed, showing the benefits arising from the delegate system in the A. Ph. A. Dr. H. M. Whelpley gave a talk on the A. Ph. A., and others present spoke of the benefits accruing from membership. Among those joining the A. Ph. A. dur

Club; a lecture on "Mammoth Cave," illustrated with lantern slides at the Grand Opera House, by Dr. H. M. Whelpley constituted the evening entertainments. Mrs. F. B. Lillie gave the ladies a reception at her residence one afternoon, and the entire association spent the afternoon following adjournment at a park enjoying the athletic sports and contests which have become such a prominent feature of state pharmaceutical association meetings. The entertainment was arranged in such a manner that the entire forenoons and afternoons were devoted to association work.

The Installation of officers occurred without special ceremonies.

The Oklahoma Medical Society sent Dr. A. L. Blesh as a delegate to the meeting.

Pure Drugs and Foods received more than passing attention. The pharmacists of Oklahoma say that nothing is too good for them.

The Patent Medicine problem was discussed by the governor of the territory, the mayor of the city and members of the association.

C. P. Wickmiller received the prize of a copy of the U. S. P. offered by the trustees of the U. S. P. C. for the best paper read at the meeting.

The N. W. D. A. had an able representative in Mr. C. E. Potts, of the Potts Drug Co., of Wichita, Kans. He was one of the organizers of the N. W. D. A.

Mrs. C. A. Dow received the prize as the most popular married lady present, and Miss Zoe Thompson re

The San Francisco sufferers received more than sympathy at the hands of the Oklahoma pharmacists.

The Meyer Brothers Drug Co. gave a prize for the best paper on "Purity Rather than Price the Prime Consideration."

The Weather was perfection itself, a just reward for the visiting pharmacists and the local committee of arrangements.

The Advent of Pure Drugs and Foods depends entirely upon the coming of equal suffrage according to Miss Effie Stone, of Jones.

ent.

The Attendance was good, not only at the opening session, but during all of the sessions. It seems as if the delegates come for business and do not hesitate in attending to it.

Who Owns The Prescription? Somehow this question sounded familiar; nor was the answer entirely new. "The proprietorship of the prescription depends upon

circumstances."

Miss Zoe Thompson, who is the efficient private secretary of Local Secretary Lillie, was remembered by the delegates with a handsome present in recognition of her faithful services.

The Indian Territory was largely and ably represented. Among those present were: L. Matthews, Miami; H. D. Kniseley, Checotah and Mr. Savage, president of the board of pharmacy.

"Uniform Degrees should be granted by the colleges of pharmacy under like conditions," thus said the association which was not prepared to endorse "Doctor of Pharmacy" as the degree.

Cocaine Legislation of the most approved type will be enacted with the coming of statehood. Several speakers touched upon the subject, the first of them being the mayor of Guthrie, Dr. Duke.

All Oklahoma pharmacists seem to be ready speakers. Among those most active in the discussions were Messrs. Matthews, Dow, Harfield, Wickmiller, Hardinbrook, Daniels, Samuel, Lillie and Kniseley.

"Your United States Dispensatory needs revision," said a visiting physician. It is to be regretted that he could not remain and hear the lecture which pointed out the difference between the official authority and the commentaries upon that standard.

Where Every One takes hold with a hearty good will, it is difficult to pick out those most responsible for the success of a successful convention, but all agree that Local Secretary F. B. Lillie is a model of efficiency in such a position. He is also a prominent and prosperous business man of Guthrie, interested in other lines in addition to his large drug business.

Physicians Have Things much their own way in Oklahoma. The mayor of Guthrie is a practicing physician and the same is true of Oklahoma City.

A Stranger in Oklahoma was informed that one of the delegates lives at Spirits of Hartshorn, another at Sublimed Sulphur, and Mr. J. L. Briggs pointed out in the Guthrie Library that an entire volume of the International Encyclopædia is devoted to Fuller's Earth (look at the title and see for yourself), thus it is that pharmacy plays an important part in Oklahoma.

The eighth annual meeting of the Chicago Veteran Druggists' Association occurred May 21. President Woltondorf read an address reviewing the work of the association from the day of organization. Turning to the future, he said, "we can therefore look to the future with increased hopes that our little circle will steadily progress in the spirit of harmony and comradeship."

Secretary W. Bodemann, in his annual report said C. E. Dow is one of the pillars of the organization that O. F. Fuller and I. B. Penton were elected asso

He said that the informal lunches which take place every Friday constitute a popular feature of the association. Possibly they will replace the regular quarterly meetings.

An appeal was made for members to send in as soon as possible biographical sketches. Five members are tardy in this respect.

The May meeting was officially named "Ebert Day." The secretary said that the association could well be proud of its record in fraternalism, that in this respect it had materialized the vision of its founder, Thomas N. Jamieson, for it cheers the living and remembers the dead.

The newly elected officers are T. H. Patterson, president; T. N. Jamieson, vice-president; Henry Biroth, treasurer; John Blocki, corresponding secretary; W. Bodemann, recording secretary.
