And against our judges that judged us, For under the whole heaven hath not been done As it is written in the law of Moses, All this evil is come upon us : Yet made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, That we might turn from our iniquities, And understand thy truth. Therefore hath the Lord watched upon the evil, And brought it upon us : For the Lord our God is righteous in all his works which He doeth: For we obeyed not his voice. And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people Forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, And hast gotten Thee renown, as at this day; We have sinned, we have done wickedly. O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech Thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away From thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: Because for our sins, And for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people Are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now, therefore, O our God, Hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, And, for the Lord's sake, cause thy face to shine Upon the sanctuary that is desolate. O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; For we do not present our supplications before Thee For our righteousness, but for thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; Defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: For thy city and thy people are called by thy name. M. *Turn us again, O Lord God of Hosts; P. Cause thy face to shine, All. And we shall be saved. M. Turn us, O God of our salvation, And cause thine anger toward us to cease. C. Wilt Thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt Thou draw out thine anger to all generations? P. Wilt Thou not revive us again: That thy people may rejoice in Thee? All. Show us thy mercy, O Lord, And grant us thy salvation. Amen. X. WISDOM. M. Surely there is a vein for the silver, C. And brass is molten out of the stone. All. He setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out all perfection : The stones of darkness, and the shadow of death. M. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; P. Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living. P. The depths saith, It is not in me ; And the sea saith, It is not with me. C. It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it : And the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls ; For the price of wisdom is above rubies. And where is the place of understanding? C. Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. M. God understandeth the way thereof, And He knoweth the place thereof. For He looketh to the ends of the earth, And He weigheth the waters by measure. C. He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. All. Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; ; M. *Doth not wisdom cry? And understanding put forth her voice? P. She standeth in the top of high places, By the way in the places of the paths. C. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, At the coming in at the doors. M. Unto you, O men, I call; And my voice is to the sons of man. All. O ye simple, understand wisdom; And ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. M. Hear, for I will speak of excellent things; And the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing froward or perverse in them. All. They are all plain to him that understandeth, And right to them that find knowledge. M. Receive my instruction, and not silver; And knowledge rather than choice gold. * Prov. viii. All. For wisdom is better than rubies; M. I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge of witty inventions. Even all the judges of the earth.
