INTRODUCTION. Being a native of that village, in which the pious and exemplary Hervey 'exercised his ministry,' his name came early to my ears, and with it was associated every trait of goodness. It invited me to a perusal of his charming productions; and I have since searched, enquired for, and collected what I conceived to be interesting to his admirers, and illustrative of his life and ingenious writings, the fruit of which is here humbly presented to my numerous Subscribers, and to the public. I cannot refrain embracing the present occasion of returning my thanks to Thomas Hinderwell, Esq. the Historian of Scarborough, for his kind assistance, and to the Rev.
