STATE BOARD OF HEALTH

Sir: I have the honor to submit the twenty-fourth Report of the State Board of Health for the biennial period ending December 31, 1923.

The last session of the Legislature having abolished the District Health Officer system, one of the first duties of the State Board of Health was to secure a local health officer in each town, such person to be recommended by the selectmen, acting as a local board of health, and given a certificate of appointment by the State Board of Health. This has been accomplished in most of the towns of the State, but in a few the selectmen have neglected to make a recommendation, while in others, resignation of the health officer after a short term of service has left further vacancies. The list changes from month to month but at present consists of 113 physicians, 107 non-medical
