Appel of Lancaster, Pa., the "Addresses and Writings of George F. Baer," including his argument before the Anthracite Coal Strike Commission, collected by his son-in-law, William N. Appel, privately printed, 1916; from Mr. William M. Baldwin of New York, 12 bound volumes of "Luther Burbank, his methods and discoveries and their practical application," prepared from his original field notes, covering more than 100,000 experiments made during forty years devoted to plant improvement, with the assistance of the Luther Burbank Society; from Mr. John Jay Chapman of New York, "Victor Chapman's letters from France," with memoir by John Jay Chapman; from Mrs. Joseph H. Choate of New York, "Pamphlets on the war, periodicals, reports of various institutions, etc.," 557 pieces in all; from Dr. H. Holbrook Curtis of New York, a collection of 135 volumes, including "The Pictorial Field Book of the Revolution" by Benjamin J. Lossing, etc.; from the Estate of Willard Fiske, the "Catalogue of the Petrarch collection," bequeathed by Willard Fiske to Cornell University; from Mr. Gordon Ireland of New York, a collection of Journals on "Philately," 547 pieces in all; from Mr. K. Y. Ling of New York, a collection of 74 volumes in the Chinese language; from Miss Helen Minshall of New York, the "Album national de la guerre publié par le Comité de la 'Fraternité des Artistes' sous le haut patronage de Monsieur Raymond Poincaré, Président de la République. (These figures include the additions to both Reference and Circulation Departments.) The total number of readers recorded in the Central Building was 62,034. They consulted 167,671 volumes.
