laid upon me, and do Thou support me in my weakness. LORD, Thou knowest whereof we are made: Thou rememberest that we are but dust; Thou givest power to the faint, and to them that have no might Thou increasest strength. Grant that, waiting upon Thee, I may renew my strength, and believe that all things work together for good to them that love God. Give me courage bravely to endure whatever pain I may yet have to undergo, as a good Soldier of JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

Prayer which may be said when in Severe Suffering.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, the only Son of God, who wast given to be a sacrifice for sin, and hast also left us a perfect example of patient suffering, even unto death; give me grace to follow Thy example in all things, and patiently to bear the Cross Thou hast laid upon me. Conform Thy servant to the likeness of Thy Passion; subdue in me all murmuring against Thy will, all fretfulness and discontent. Teach me to

endure hardness as a good Soldier of Thy cross; and grant that, cleansed from my sins in Thy Blood, and trusting wholly in Thee, by the merits of Thy Death and Passion, I may be admitted hereafter into Thine eternal kingdom, to praise Thee for ever. Amen.

Short Sentences when in great Pain. O comfort the soul of Thy servant : For unto Thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

Hear me, O LORD, and that soon, for my spirit waxeth faint :

Hide not Thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

My heart and my flesh faileth : But GOD is the strength of my life, and my portion for ever.

Why art thou so vexed, O my soul : Why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thou thy trust in GOD,

For I will yet thank Him, which is the help of my countenance.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, who for the

salvation of the world wast willing to bear patiently sorrow and agony, passion and death; grant that, mindful of Thy patience in all that Thou hast borne for us, we may bear our light affliction patiently for Thy sake; that so, sharing in Thy sorrow, we may become partakers of Thy glory: who livest and reignest with the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT, one GOD, world without end. Amen.
