O Lamb of GOD, that takest away the sin of the world,

Have mercy upon me.

O Lamb of GOD, that takest away the sin of the world,

Grant me Thy Peace.

O Blessed JESU, who hast loved me, and washed me from my sins in Thine own Blood, receive my soul when it departs from the body into the joyful abodes of Thine elect, to dwell for ever in Thy glorious Presence.

O Blessed JESU, who by death didst take away the sting of death, and by Thy Resurrection hast opened to us the gate of Everlasting Life ; grant unto me that, wholly trusting in Thy mercy, I may fall asleep peacefully in Thee, and awaking up after Thy likeness, may be admitted to the joys of Paradise to praise Thee eternally.

"Behold, I come quickly."

'Even so, come, LORD JESUS."

CONSOLATION FOR A DYING SEAMAN ALARMED ON ACCOUNT OF SIN. Question. Dost thou believe that the LORD JESUS CHRIST died for thee? Answer. I believe it.

Question. Dost thou thank Him for His Passion and Death? Answer. I do thank Him.

Question. Dost thou believe that thou canst not be saved except by His Death?

Answer. I believe it.

Come, then, Christian Seaman, while life remains to thee; in His Death alone place thy whole trust; trust in nothing else; to His Death commit thyself entirely; let it be thy entire protection. And if the LORD thy GOD will judge thee, say, "O LORD, between me and Thy judgment I offer the Death of our LORD JESUS CHRIST; otherwise I cannot stand before Thee." And if He shall say that thou art a sinner, say thou, "O LORD, I put the Death of our LORD JESUS CHRIST between my sins and Thee." If He say that thou hast deserved condem

nation, say, "LORD, I place the Death of our LORD JESUS CHRIST between the evils I have deserved and Thee; His merits I offer for those I ought to have, and have not." If He say that He is angry with thee, say, LORD, let the Death of JESUS CHRIST be a shield between Thy wrath and me." And when thou hast finished, say again, LORD, I set the Death of JESUS CHRIST, my Saviour, between Thee and me."

ON THE APPROACH OF DEATH.

It is imperative upon a dying Seaman to receive the Holy Communion, if possible; and no one at such a time would neglect so important a duty, and so great a blessing and comfort. The Christian Seaman will do what he believes CHRIST has commanded; and if he feel his conscience troubled with any weighty matter, and if he humbly and heartily desire it, his appointed Minister will absolve him on confession of his sins, as His Church directs in the Office of Visitation of the Sick. If no Priest be near him,

he will use some of the prayers in Chapter iii. of this book, and the Litany of the Passion; or a messmate will read them for him. Also, as opportunity serves, let him read or have read to him the following:

Psalm cxxx. (p. 94.)

LORD, have mercy upon me;
CHRIST, have mercy upon me;
LORD, have mercy upon me ;
Our FATHER, &c.

"In the midst of life we are in death; of whom may we seek for succour but of Thee, O LORD, who for our sins art justly displeased?

"Yet, O LORD GOD most Holy, O LORD most Mighty, O Holy and most Merciful Saviour, deliver me not into the bitter pains of eternal death.

"Thou knowest, LORD, the secrets of the heart; shut not Thy merciful ears to my prayer: but spare me, O LORD most Holy, O GOD most Mighty, O Holy and Merciful Saviour, Thou most Worthy Judge eternal, suffer me not at my last hour to fall from Thee!"

O Holy JESU, Saviour of sinners, who by Thy Precious Death hast

atoned for sin, and by Thy Resurrection hast overcome Death, and opened unto us the gate of Everlasting Life; I pray Thee to have mercy upon me. LORD, wash my soul from every stain of sin; sprinkle me with Thy precious Blood. Hide me in Thy pierced Side; carry me safely through the Dark Valley.

Look on me as Thou didst look in infinite compassion on the penitent thief, and remember me, LORD, when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom.

Thou, O LORD, hast redeemed me ; suffer not that to be lost which Thou hast redeemed.

LORD, for me Thou didst pay the price with Thy most Precious Blood; suffer not that to be cast away, which Thou hast bought so dearly.

LORD, Thou hast made me in Thine Own Image; Suffer not Thine Image to be blotted out.

LORD, into Thy hands I commend myself, as unto a faithful Creator, and most Merciful Father.

O Blessed JESU, my LORD and my GOD, who hast loved me, and washed
