Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

O God of peace, deign to dwell in this family; and should there now exist in it any secret heart-burnings or jealousies, we pray they may this night be forgotten.

Merciful God, bring all our relatives and friends into thy true fold; and render them still more dear to us by the bonds of grace than by those of natural affection. However scattered on earth, grant that we may share each other's bliss in the inheritance of the saints.

Be very gracious to thy universal Church; and pour out thy Spirit upon all flesh. We earnestly pray that both at home and abroad thy word may have free course, and be glorified. Shed thy blessing upon all societies engaged in the promotion of thy truth increase their means of usefulness, and direct and prosper their undertakings. Raise up, we pray Thee, in connexion with them, devoted and faithful men to go forth as missionaries to the Heathen and the Jew; and be very gra

cious to all who are thus employed. May the joy of the Lord be their strength; and may they be faithful unto death.

We intercede for all under the influence

of Romish superstitions. O dispel the darkness in which they are involved, and deliver them from the thraldom of vain traditions.

We praise Thee, good Lord, for all the dealings of thy providence and grace throughout the week now closing. We thank Thee for having preserved us by night and by day; for our health, for freedom from accidents, and for the continuance of all our comforts.

May the end of another week, so quickly passed, remind us of the shortness and uncertainty of our lives, and of the value of an eternal Sabbath in heaven. Prepare us for this, O God, by rendering thy Sabbaths on earth a delight; and may the prospect of joining the assembly of thy people on the morrow fill us with gladness.

We pray, O Lord, for those who on the morrow shall minister in sacred things.

Give them enlarged knowledge and experience of thy truth, and grace to preach it fully and faithfully. Put thy seal to their ministrations by the conversion of many souls.

Protect us this night, good Lord: grant that we may rise in the morning with hearts prepared for thy service; and do Thou lead us to thy house with the full purpose of offering unto Thee spiritual worship. O that we may all become thine only, thine entirely, thine for ever.

We ask every blessing in the name, and for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

Third Week.

LORD'S DAY MORNING.

O LORD, our heavenly Father, we bless Thee for the mercies of the past night, and for sparing us to behold the light of another Sabbath. Grant us thy grace that we may rest this day according to thy commandment. Quicken our souls by thy Holy Spirit, that in all our thoughts, words, and works, we may glorify thy holy Name, and be in thy fear all the day long.

We confess, O God, that we are not worthy to come into thy presence; for we have been sinners from our childhood until now; continually transgressing thy holy laws. Be merciful unto us, most mer

ciful Father. Forgive us all that is past; and speak peace to our consciences, that we may serve Thee this day with quiet minds. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit. Go with us, we beseech Thee, to thy house of prayer. Grant that we may enter thy gates with thanksgiving, and thy courts with praise; may we be thankful unto Thee, and bless thy Name. Let our prayers and praises, proceeding out of unfeigned lips, and offered up in spirit and in truth, prove a spiritual sacrifice, acceptable unto Thee through Jesus Christ.

O may we this day wait upon Thee in deep humility, that with meek heart and due reverence, we may hear and receive thy holy word. May we be doers of the word, and not hearers only. May we watch and pray, lest the wicked one come and catch away that which is sown in our hearts.

Carry on in our souls, O Lord, the work of faith with power. Fulfil in us all the good pleasure of thy will. Sanctify us
