the Sabbath. May we count it "the holy of the Lord, and honourable not doing our own ways, nor finding our own pleasure, nor speaking our own words," but worshipping Thee "in the beauty of holiness.”

For this purpose we beseech Thee to put holy thoughts into our minds, pious affections into our hearts, and words suitable to this blessed day upon our lips.

Be with us, O Lord, we pray Thee, in thy house of prayer. Enable us to unite with our hearts as well as with our lips in the appointed services of the Sanctuary. May we confess our sins as those who feel that we have indeed "done the things we ought not to have done, and have left undone the things which we ought to have done, and that there is no health in us." pray with the spirit, and with the understanding also." May we "sing thy praises with joyful lips ;" "making melody in our hearts unto the Lord." May we hear thy Word with a believing and humble mind. May something be spoken on this day, which by the power of the Holy Spirit,

shall be the means of strengthening our faith, and leading us onwards in the narrow path of eternal life. "satisfy us

with thy favour," and fill us "with the provision of thy house;" and grant that these earthly Sabbaths may prepare us for that Sabbath which shall never end, and for that assembly which shall never break up.

O thou bountiful Giver of every good and every perfect gift, hear us, we pray Thee, on behalf of the whole human race. Grant thy Sabbaths unto all nations: pour out of thy Spirit on all flesh; and let all the ends of the earth see thy salvation.

We pray for those near and dear to us; for all who claim a special interest in our prayers. "Remember them, O Lord, with the favour Thou bearest unto thy people. O visit them with thy salvation."

We pray also for a great blessing upon all the assemblies of thy saints. Wherever two or three are gathered together, O blessed Jesus, in thy holy name, and according to thy holy will, be Thou, in the

midst of them, to help them and to do them good.

Grant a double portion of thy Holy Spirit to all thy servants whom Thou hast sent forth to preach thine "everlasting Gospel." May thy word from their lips be accompanied with "power from on high."

Remember, O Lord, thy promises to Abraham and Isaac: "turn ungodliness from Jacob;" and grant "that the receiving of the Jews may be as life from the dead" to the Gentiles.

"Let all the people praise thee, O God: let all the people praise thee."

Let Jewish unbelief, Papal superstition, Mahometan imposture, and Heathen idolatry speedily come to an end. Take to Thee, O Lord, we pray Thee, thy great power and reign.

We especially pray for our Church, and more particularly for the congregation with which we are connected. May thy Word "have free course among us and be glorified."

Bless the "lambs of the flock. Gather

them in thine arms and carry them in thy bosom." Bless their parents, and bless

their teachers: Grant them grace to train them up in the way wherein they should go. Finally, we beseech Thee, O Lord, to grant unto us a family blessing. Give us a quiet, peaceful, holy, happy Sabbath, that beginning the day in prayer we may have cause indeed to end it in praise.

These mercies and all others, we ask in the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LORD'S DAY EVENING.

O Thou blessed Lord of mercy and truth, we present ourselves once more before Thee at the close of the Sabbath. "Let our prayer be set forth before thee as incense, and the lifting up of our hands be as an evening sacrifice," "acceptable to Thee by Jesus Christ." Since thine angels above have need to cover their faces before thy throne, how much more must each of us cry

out, "Woe is me, for I am undone; for I am of unclean lips." "O Lord, enter not into judgment with thy servants, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified." We should not dare, vile as we are, to come into thy presence, did we not look to our blessed High Priest, who bears the iniquities of our holy things. For ever blessed be thy name for his gracious work of intercession, the only, the sure ground of our confidence before Thee!

With all our consciousness of guilt and defilement, we would still bless Thee, O our God, for the high privilege of this thy Sabbath. We thank Thee for the blessedness of the joyful sound of salvation which we have heard. Oh! let it be ever precious to our souls, that in the knowledge of it we may "walk in the light of thy countenance, and rejoice in thy name" all our lives long. We pray Thee that the impression of thy word may be deep and lasting. O thou Divine Spirit, be pleased to "bring all things to our remembrance," that we may "take the more earnest heed to that which
