Mr. Goggin presented a petition of William Saunders and William R. Porter, sureties of William Estis, late a paymaster in the United States army, praying to be released from a judgment held against them by the United States which petition was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Hughes presented a petition of citizens of Missouri, praying for the establishment of a port of entry at Independence, in Jackson county; and that traders to New Mexico, by the overland route, be allowed the privilege of debenture and drawback on goods exported by them in original packages to that country: which petition was committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union.

Mr. Giddings presented a petition of citizens of Albany, New York, remonstrating against the annexation of Texas: which petition was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Schenck presented a petition of citizens of Hamilton county, Ohio, praying that the provisions of the pension law passed June 7, 1832, may be so extended as to embrace the surviving soldiers who served in the western armies under Generals Harmar, St. Clair, and Wayne.

Mr. Harper presented a petition of Jacob Addison, of Muskingum county, Ohio, a revolutionary pensioner, praying for an increase of pension. Mr. A. A. Chapman presented a petition of Joseph Davidson, of Mercer county, Virginia, praying for a pension in consideration of his services to the United States in the revolutionary war: which petitions were severally referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions.

Mr. G. W. Summers presented a petition of Andrew Waggoner, of Ma

son county, Virginia, asking compensation for a slave lost in the public. service at Craney island, during the war with Great Britain in 1813.

Mr. Payne presented a petition of Daniel Turnipseed, of Pickens county, Alabama, praying for remuneration for losses sustained by him at the hands of hostile Indians in 1836.
