Proceedings of the Council of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Oklahoma.

FIRST DAY

Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory,

Tuesday, January 10, 1905.

This being the day fixed by law for the convening of the Territorial Legislative Assembly, and the hour of 2 o'clock P. M. having arrived, those declaring themselves elected members of the Council of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Oklahoma, met in the Hall designated by the Secretary of the Territory as the Council Chamber.

John H. Decker, claiming to be the member-elect as Council from the Sixth Council District, called the Council to order, and read the following communication:

"TERRITORY OF OKLAHOMA.

"Secretary's Office,

"Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory,

"January 10, 1905.

"I do hereby certify that the list of names hereto attached contains the names of the duly elected Councilmen of the Territory of Oklahoma, elected on the eighth day of November, 1904, as members of the Eighth Legislative Assembly, as shown by the records of this office, towit:

"First District, Joel R. Scott, of Perry, Noble County.
"Second District, John P. Hickam, Perkins, Payne County.

"Third District, Leslie G. Niblack, Guthrie, Logan County. "Fourth District, John Threadgill, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County.

"Fifth District, E. L. Cralle, Norman, Cleveland County.
"Sixth District, John H. Decker, Pond Creek, Grant County.
"Seventh District, Felix L. Winkler, Kingfisher, Kingfisher County.
"Eighth District, A. L. Sharrock, Cleo, Woods County.

"Ninth District, Evert J. Murphy, Arapahoe, Custer County. "Tenth District, Chas. R. Alexander, Woodward County. "Eleventh District, J. A. Menefee, Fort Cobb, Caddo County. "Twelfth District, B. N. Woodson, Hobart, Kiowa County. "Thirteenth District, W. P. Francis, Elk City, Roger Mills County. "In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the Territory, the date first above written.

"WILLIAM GRIMES, "Secretary of Oklahoma Territory.'

Whereupon, Evert J. Murphy, a member-elect, placed in nomination the name of C. R. Alexander, of the Tenth Council District, for temporary presiding officer. There being no other nomination, Mr. Alexander was elected.

Mr. Alexander having assumed the Chair, announced the selection of a temporary clerk to be in order.

John P. Hickam placed the name of A. L. Sharrock, of the Eighth District, in nomination for the temporary clerk. There being no other nomination, Mr. Sharrock was declared elected.

The temporary presiding officer next instructed all persons claiming to be members of the Council to file their certificates of election with the temporary clerk.
