chief beauty of the plants lies in their variegated foliage. Height, about 1ft.

SPECIES. The best known kinds are Ophiopogon Jaburan variegatus, leaves margined with white; and O. japonicus variegatus, leaves margined with yellow. Height about 1ft.

CULTURE.--Will succeed in a cool or warm greenhouse, and requires to be grown in a compost of two parts sandy loam,

one part leaf-mould or decayed manure, and silver sand. Repotting should be done in early spring. Give plenty of water during spring and summer, and a moderate quantity in autumn and winter. It is not necessary to repot every year; only when the pot is well filled with roots. Pot-bound plants may be supplied with liquid manure occasionally during the summer. The foliage may be syringed daily.
