Ah, never! ah, no!

SI glad bid adieu to the world's fancied pleasure, You pity my weakness,-alas! did you know The joys of religion, that best hidden treasure, Would you bid me resign them? ah, never! ah, no!

2 You'll surely rejoice, when I say I've received

The only true comfort attained below:
I know by experience in WHOM I've believed;
Shall I give up this treasure? ah, never! ah,
no!

3 In the gay scenes of life I was happiness wooing,

But ah! in her stead I encountered a woe, And found I was only a phantom pursuing; Never once did I find her-ah, never! ah, no!

4 But in those bright paths which you call melancholy,

I've found those delights which the world does not know; [your folly, Oh! did you embrace them, you'd then see Nor again bid me fly them-ah, never! ah, no!

[blocks in formation]

Look to me.

He bids the guilty now draw near,
Repent, believe, dismiss their fear,
Hark! hark! what precious words I hear,

'Mercy's free.'

2 Jesus, the mighty God hath spoken

Peace to me.

Now all my chains of sin are broken,

Soon as I in His name believed,

The Holy Spirit I received,

I am free.

And Christ from death my soul retrieved,

3 Jesus my weary soul refreshes,

Mercy's free.

Mercy's free.

And every moment Christ is precious

Unto me.

None can describe the bliss I prove,
While through this wilderness I rove;
All may enjoy the Saviour's love,

Mercy's free.

4 Great God of love! I can but wonder,
Though I've no price at all to tender,
Though mercy's free, our God is just,
And if a soul should e'er be lost,
This will torment the sinner most,

Mercy's free.

5 Swell, swell, O swell the heavenly chorus,
Death and hell shall fall before us;
Believe, repent, enquire the road
That leads to glory and to God,
And wash in Christ's atoning blood,

Mercy's free.

6 Long as I live I'll still be crying,
And this shall be my theme when dying,
And when the vale of death I've past,
And rise above the stormy blast,

I'll sing while endless ages last,

Mercy's free.

A Revival.

ND the house of the Lord shall be filled
With glory, hallelujah,

With glory hallelujah,

With glory, hallelujah, amen.

2 Let the preachers be filled with Thy love, Sing glory, hallelujah.

3 Let the members be filled with Thy love, Send the power.

4 Let the children be filled with Thy love, Send the power.

5 Let the penitents be filled with Thy love, Send the power.

6 Let backsliders be filled with Thy love, Send the power.

7 And the work of the Lord shall revive, Send the power.

The Prodigal Son.

FFLICTIONS, tho' they seem severe,
In mercy oft are sent;

They stopp'd the prodigal's career,
And caused him to repent.

Chorus.

'I die with hunger here,' he cries,
'And starve in a foreign land;
In my father's house there's bread enough,
And bounteous is his hand.'

2 Although he no relentings felt,
Till he had spent his store;
His stubborn heart began to melt
When famine pinch'd him sore.

3 'What have I gained by sin,' he said,
'But hunger, shame, and fear?
My father's house abounds with bread,
While I am starving here.

4 'I'll go and tell him all I've done,
And fall before his face;
Unworthy to be call'd his son,
I'll seek a servant's place.'

5 His father saw him coming back,
He saw, and ran, and smiled,
And threw his arms about the neck
Of his rebellious child.

6 'Father, I've sinn'd-but oh, forgive;'
'I've heard enough,' he said,-
'Rejoice, my house, my son's alive,
For whom I mourn'd as dead.
