in the iron plate with a shoulder projecting on each side, and two plates of ĝin. iron secured to the inside of the trunk on the aft side of the shoulders, called guides, up and down the fore side of which the pivot travels, the fore end of the trunk to be shod with in. iron, to take the rub in that direction.

"I have shown a screw and wheel, or big nut to turn by hand, for raising or lowering the fore end; the object of doing so is to be able to give more hold in the water at either end, which cannot be done with a fixed pivot.

"The halyards lead through sheaves forward, and belay close to your hand aft, to cleats on the top of the side of hatch, which does not move. I have shown a joint in the tiller; I have found it handy when people are in the fore part of the well in the way. The counter looks too short, but your dimensions limit me there. The combings of the well are narrower than those of the hatch. Of course you can have your hatch wider, but I should have the open well narrow, so that the boat could not fill, but only float on her side if thrown flat in a sudden squall, then you have confidence in her and know that she cannot sink under any circumstances, the ballast being low enough to right her and unable to shift. The keel I have shown 10in. wide amidships, with cast iron to go right up to the garboard, and the bolts which secure it should go right through the trunk and nut, above the W.L. under the table; the sides of the table to be on hinges with iron brackets. The spindle for raising the fore end of centre-board is fixed with two legs to the shoulders of the pivot. I have shown a fore hatch; it gives ventilation and light in the forecastle.

“The keel is rounded well up to make her quick in stays, but you can of course suit your own fancy about this. She is a large displacement centre-board, and would carry a lot of sail, and stand any sea, being so buoyant she would get on the top of it.
