At the special meeting called by Local ChairBrown in the Assiniboia Hotel, Medicine Hat, on the evening of May 28th, we had the pleasure of having with us General Chairman Western Lines J. M. Mein. This was the first time we have been honored with his presence, and hope to be again favored with a call from him in the near future.

The principal business of the meeting was the taking up of a number of grievances. Bro. Mein enlightened several of the brothers upon the working schedule which was not quite clear to them. The other brothers present were: A. E. McAmmond, R. J. Gough, N. K. Black, W. H. McEwan, Geo. McNally, H. McMitchell, C. A. Wade, G. Dessert, J. Dupras, R. L. Conn, T. M. Hamblin, N. Morrell, W. H. Renny, C. D. Holder, J. Cox, A. J. Barton, Geo. Jardine, A. S. Blair, W. A. Lancour, J. E. Barr, H. W. Cavell and II. Beiber.

Bro. H. E. Tompkins, agent Irvine, is on a honeymoon trip to Regina, Vancouver, and other points. Congratulations.

With prospects for a good crop and everything favorable, including the oil discovery near Calgary, we should see a very busy fall.

Brothers, it is time to pay your dues for last half of 1914. Pay up promptly; get that new card, and save the local chairman and general secretary unnecessary work; also get after the few remaining nons on this district-even one is too many.

I am very much indebted to Bro. Hamblin for notes this month, and hope he will come again. with some more next month.

A meeting of the cream of the O. R. T., which is located right here (we mean the cream), was held in MacLeod on Sunday, May 17th, with an attendance of twenty-three brothers as follows: Green, High River; Bundy, Nanton; Demings, Parkland; Holmotz, Cayley; Moir, Staveley; MacKinnon, Price, Jesse, Mac Bride, Cullen, Kipp, Chappelle, MacLeod; Collins, Monarch; Mowers and Dooley, Kipp; Broomley, Cowley; Harrison, Lundbreck; Smith and Penn, Coleman; Cook, Crows Nest; Murphy, Michel; Fraser, Natal; Local Chairman W. T. Watson, Hosmer.

We are pleased to know that Bro. M. D. McPhee is back again at Wardner, after spending some time in Cranbrook hospital.

We regret to chronicle the death of the wife of First Trick Dispatcher Bro. Frank Dunn, which occurred in Milwaukee, Wis., after a long illness. Bro. H. A. Brown relieved Bro. Dunn, Bro. Getz taking third trick steady, and Bro. Bancroft relieved by Bro. Doner on "RN" days, the relief dispatcher's position.

W. E. Cline, our esteemed chief dispatcher at Cranbrook was married to Miss Alice C. MacDonald on July 2d. The honeymoon is an extensive tour of Europe. The boys gave him their best wishes, and a cut glass punch bowl with a dozen glasses. Bro. H. A. Brown is relieving him.

The mines have been permanently closed at Hosmer, ruining a good town and a good job. Bros. Watson and Thompson, agent and operator, will suffer.

Bro. Murphy, of Michel, is "vacating" in the sleepy East; relieved by Bro. P. G. Shellington.

The terrible explosion which wrecked Hillcrest mine located on our district kept Bros. Perry and Williamson busy there.

A sad wave of insanity seems to have struck the east end. If you ask them for notes all they can say is, "Oil and millions, millions and oil." You would think they owned the Monarch outright.

One of the best chief dispatchers on the C. P. R., W. J. Manley, of MacLeod, is on vacation; relieved by First Trick Dispatcher J. J. McDonnell, which gives Bro. Chapelle steady work on third, and Bro. Cullen the relief dispatcher's position. CERT. 1285.

Lake Superior Division, District One

The big meeting in Sudbury on April 11th was attended by forty-five members, including Bro. Rooney, and those who were unable to attend were very much disappointed in not seeing any write-up of it heretofore in THE TELEGRAPHER. It's a very poor showing for this division, when there is a write-up from nearly all other divisions on the system, not to have anything in from this

one.

A number of subjects were brought up and discussed, also the wire test, a few grievances straightened out, and an address by Bro. Rooney, which was greatly appreciated. The subject of monthly meetings was brought up by Bros. Crabbe and Riely, and arrangements made for them in Sudbury and North Bay and joint meetings at the call of the local chairman. These meetings in North Bay will be more convenient for the brothers on the east end to attend, instead of Sudbury, on account of the train service and the length of time it takes to attend those at the latter point, so the sooner we get these going, the better.

Assesment slips have been received by most members for the coming dues period. Remit immediately, boys. Don't leave it go till next pay, and don't forget, "No card, no favors." Let's all get a seniority list, also a list of all the nons on this division from the local chairman, and then we can tell how we stand and who the nons are close to us and give us a chance to line them up. Last Educational Bulletin Notes show where quite a few agents and operators were disciplined for not keeping things in shape around their stations, such as "clock-rating card not up to date," "others filled in when time not sent," "train bulletin board not chalked up," etc. These should never occur, seeing what simple things they are, but increase the number of demerits against you, and do not look very good whenever any of our officials are looking up your records. Boys, avoid these by attending to your duties promptly and efficiently, and you will get along far better. "Please explains" will be fewer then.

We hope by the time our next TELEGRAPHER reaches us we will have heard more about these monthly meetings, and that a correspondent for every subdivision will be appointed, which could be easily done and not be very hard on anyone, as the ground could then be covered more closely and precisely than with only one correspondent for the whole district.

A great number of stations and positions have been bulletined the last couple of months, causing quite a bit of shifting around.

Bro. Crabbe represented the company at the court of revision at "PN."

The boys like to see Sunday come to take their little trips to closeby lakes, especially on the east end, where the fishing is in full swing.

Bro. Wichman, "SN" nights, is contemplating "joining the benedicts." We hope he won't forget the cigars.

Bro. Crabbe issued a "23" calling for contributions to help along the fund for poor survivors of the recent disaster to the Empress of Ireland, in which so many lives were lost. Friends and relatives of these have our heartfelt sympathy.

Several of the boys forgot to pay their dues for the last half. Remember, brothers, "No card, no favors," and stick to it. Those who drop out are usually the ones who ask the most favors.

A dozen or more summer bids are up, out of which we should be able to pick something good for the season.

Bro. Miles, second Remsen, was off a few days, relieved by Stevenson.
