ADOPTED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR LONDON.

THE

"VICTORIA" SERIES OF SCHOOL MAPS,

Size, 64 by 52 inches

Price, full coloured, mounted on Cotton, with Rollers, and Varnished, 12/- each.

OTHERS IN

READY: Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, England. PREPARATION.

The largest and cheapest School Maps in the Market.

The chief educational points considered have been to give a clear knowledge of the Physical and Political features of each country by descriptive colouring. Thus, in Physical Geography, Coast-lines, Rivers and Lakes are coloured blue, whilst the Hills have a special printing in brown.

In Political Geography, each Country and County has a distinctive colour, and Cities and Towns have special marks, the Railways are also clearly shown. In all this, however, care has been taken that the Maps shall in no way be overcrowded with names.

Considering their size and the quality of the materials used in their production, the "Victoria series of school maps is undoubtedly the cheapest in the market, and as it contains all the latest information, it is also the best.

Size, 58 by 50 inches. Printed in Colours.

Price, mounted on Cotton

Rollers, and Varnished, 12/

A MAP of VICTORIA. With small inset map of Australia and a plan of Melbourne. "Constructed with great care from the latest authorities and very finely engraved."-The Bookseller.

The "MINERVA" Series of GEOGRAPHICAL TERMS.

Price, mounted on Cotton, Rollers, and Varnished, 3/- each. Size
of each sheet 34 by 22 inches.

The chief advantage claimed for the "Minerva" Series of Geographical Wall Pictures over others already published is the practical manner in which a knowledge of Geography may be conveyed to very young children.

On each sheet are four subjects illustrated by beautiful sketches in colours and at the side of each sketch is a copy of the same on an identical scale, Geographically drawn for blackboard work, and also a fac-simile reduction for slate work.

It will be obvious that here we have a simple but most practical way of giving to even the youngest child a clear idea of what is known as Geography, at the smallest amount of trouble to the teacher.

The three sheets now published will shortly be followed by others. The following is a list of the sheets now ready and the contents of each :-1.-An Island, an Archipelago, a Peninsula, a Cape and Promontory, Sea and Bay. 2.-A Lake, Straits, Table-land and Hills, an Isthmus and Gulf. 3.-A Desert and Oasis, a Seaport and Harbour, a Volcano, a

Mountain Range and Valley with River.

A Teacher writes thus :-"I can tell you one practical effect of the pictures and maps that may interest you. On Friday one of my wee mites discovered a lump of earth standing in a pool of water and I heard him explaining to a still smaller mite that it was an island only not like the one in the picture because it had no trees.' And he said he should put it on his slate. I repeat that the picture and the plan side by side, are of inestimable value for teaching purposes."

In sheet, folded, a Map of the Thames Championship Course, price 6d.

"This Series is evidently the outcome of a practical man's mind. The subjects are arranged with method, and commence with simple outlines of objects which are familiar to children. But the most valuable aid to the teacher will be found in the suggesting lines which form the groundwork, so to speak, of each figure. For blackboard teaching we strongly recommend a trial of the twenty sheets which make up the set."-The Schoolmaster.

DRAWING-Continued.

"Elementary Lessons

in Freehand Design."

In Packets of Eight Stout Cards, 10 x 6 inches, with Instructions for Use, and Directions for Colouring.

Price ONE SHILLING per Packet.

Although there are many excellent works on ornamental drawing, yet none have been prepared with the special purpose of introducing the Student in the earlier stages to the practice of design. We have Schools for Painting, and for Copying, but there are really no Schools of Design; while in Schools and Schools of Art the teaching of Drawing is usually limited to the practice of imitation. Thus Students, who really have a facility for Art, and who, if properly trained, might take useful positions in connection with our art manufacturers, become mere copyists.

In "The Elementary Lessons in Freehand Design," the Student is instructed how to apply his skill in the construction of designs, artistically correct, and pure in style.

His first step is to acquire the power of copying with precision. His next, to study each elementary form with a view to combination.

By following the simple instructions given with each packet, the beginner will gradually and surely proceed from the copying of simple elementary forms to the construction of interesting and useful ornamental designs.

"

Sample Packets post free on receipt of Twelve Stamps.

These beautiful Cards have been prepared with the special purpose of introducing the Student in the earlier stages to the practice of Design. The lessons consist of examples of a simple form, with a few of a more elaborate character. The simple examples are intended as models for imitation, and the more elaborate indicate how, by combination, repetition and slight modification, the elementary forms may be utilised for ornamental purposes."-School Beard Chronicle.
