JOHNSTON'S CHROMO PORTRAIT OF

Her Majesty Queen Victoria

SIZE, 37 BY 29 INCHES.

This Magnificent Picture has been drawn from an Original Oil Painting. In the composition of the painting the mos reliable data has been made use of. The result is a pleasing and effective piece of work.

The centralportion represents a frame enclosing the portrait of Her Majesty wearing the Ribbon of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and the Royal Order of V ctoria and Albert. The frame bears the names of ten Prime Ministers during the Queen's reign. Portraits of the Queen in 1837 and H. R.H. Prince Albert are also given, and the corners are filled by four Monochrome Pictures of Kensington Palace, Windsor Castle, and the Coronation and Wedding Scenes.

Now Ready.

JOHNSTON'S CROMO VIEW OF THE

City of Edinburgh

FROM THE CALTON HILL

SIZE, 36 BY 29 INCHES.

Messrs JOHNSTON having arranged to give a View of Edinburgh in their Series of Historical and Famous Scenes for Schools, it occurred to them that before destroying the stones an Edition with Extra Margins, on Thick Paper, would meet with a ready demand.

The View is taken from an Original Oil Painting, and the following buildings, etc., in course of construction, are shown as they will appear when completed: The New North British Railway Waverley Station Hotel, North Bridge Buildings, Additions to the City Chambers, and New North Bridge.

A note to this effect appears on the picture, so that in after years it will show when these improvements and alterations took place.

Edinburgh has probably been more photographed and illustrated than any other city in the Kingdom, nevertheless it seems strange that nothing in the shape of a large Coloured Picture has been produced by any of the publishing houses.

The Picture being 29 inches in width can be sent to any address abroad by Book Post, or to any address in the United Kingdom by Parcel Post.

Price, 28. 6d., on Thick Paper.

The object of this important Series is to bring before children specimens of the whole Animal World on large and artistic Plates. Teachers are thus enabled to describe the animals in the most clear and striking manner, and children cannot fail to be deeply interested. The following advantages of this Series may be noted :1. The Scale of the Plates is such that in an ordinary classroom every scholar is able to see and remark, from his place, all the details of the picture.

2. Each Plate, as a rule, contains only one animal, or a natural pair.

3. In all cases where possible, the animals are drawn from nature.

4. The animals are represented in positions characteristic of their nature and habits.

5. The scenery amidst which they are depicted represents, as correctly as possible, the locality in which the animal is usually found.
