Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.

In this HOSPITAL a portion of the beds is set apart for Clinical Instruction by the Professors of the University of Edinburgh. Courses of Clinical Medicine and Surgery are also given by the Ordinary Physicians and Surgeons. Special Instruction is given in the Medical Department on Diseases of Women, Physical Diagnosis, &c., and in the Surgical Department on Diseases of the Eye. Separate Wards are devoted to Fever, Small-pox, Venereal Diseases, Diseases of Women, Diseases of the Eye; also to cases of Incidental Delirium or Insanity. Post-mortem Examinations are conducted in the Anatomical Theatre by the Pathologist, who also gives practical instruction in Pathological Anatomy and Histology.

HOSPITAL TICKETS.-Perpetual, in One Payment, £10; Annual, £5, 5s.; Half-yearly, £3, 3s. ; Quarterly, 1, 11s. 6d. Two Years entitle the Student to a Perpetual Ticket.

Separate Payments for

APPOINTMENTS.-No Fees are payable for any Medical or Surgical Appointment in this Hospital. The Subordinate appointments are made by the Physicians and Surgeons, or, on their recommendation, by the Managers; and they are open to all Students and Junior Practitioners holding the Hospital Ticket during the period over which the appointment extends. These appointments are as follows:

1. FOUR RESIDENT PHYSICIANS and FOUR RESIDENT SURGEONS are from time to time appointed by the Managers, on the recommendation of the Physicians and Surgeons. The holders of these offices live in the House free of charge. Candidates must be registered as legally qualified Practitioners. The appointment is for six months, but may be renewed at the end of that period by special recommendation. 2. NON-RESIDENT CLINICAL CLERKS are appointed by the Physicians and Surgeons, for such periods and under such conditions as they deem expedient. DRESSERSHIPS. Each Surgeon appoints from Four to Nine Dressers, the appointment being for Six Months.

4. ASSISTANTS in the PATHOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT are appointed by the

Pathologist.

The Divisions of Surplus are Quinquennial, and the whole amount (less 20 per cent. only) is distributed amongst the Assured. The addition to the Surplus Fund for the year 1870 is £118,234.

The next Division of Surplus will take place in 1872.
