Set 1.-Comprises exercises in right lines and simple curves in varying proportion and exercises in the construction of easy right-lined and curved figures.

Set 2. This series leads the pupil to appreciate the composition of compound and irregular curves, and to apply them in simple designs. In these exercises, leaf forms, for obvious reasons, have been very generally adopted.

Set 3.-Exercises carry the pupil a few steps further, and lead him to perceive and reproduce mass relations correctly, at the same time giving effect to principles already mastered.

Set 4. These designs illustrate the development of more difficult ornamental forms.

Set 5.-A beautiful selection of original designs, providing exercises in all the principles dealt with throughout the whole series.

This plan has been adopted to illustrate a proper progression in studying a design, to lead the pupils to perceive and understand its spirit, its essential features, and its detail, and by means of a carefully prepared series of graded exercises to assist them to give expression to the same by sound and reliable methods. A brief instruction is given to each exercise.
