This material is quite flexible, and much thicker and stronger than that generally in use. It is guaranteed not to crack when rolled up, and has many advantages over the ordinary Blackboard. It may be moved about before a class quite easily, and when drawings, etc., are wanted for future lessons it can be rolled up, and thus do away with the risk of the chalk being rubbed off, as is the case when a Blackboard is used.

BROWNS' HYGIENIC SLATE CLEANER (Peck's Patent).

A new invention which dispenses with spitting on slates, and the use of filthy slate-rags. 13/6 net per gross.

This latest device for slate cleaning is not a toy, but a valuable acquisition to the outfit of every child that attends school. By means of a sliding arrangement in the centre of this special cleaner a slate can first of all be washed over with what is termed the damp end, and then finished off with the dry end. It is, undoubtedly, the best and most durable idea for the purpose ever placed before the teaching profession at a popular price.

TEXT BOOKS.

SCHOOL AND HOME LIFE.
By T. G. ROOPER, M.A., H.M.I.
Essays and Lectures on Current Educational Topics. New Edition, 480 pp.,
3/6 net.

In the "Syllabus of the Certificate Examinations of the Board of Education for Teachers in Elementary Schools" this book has been set for Special Study in Section B.-The Principles of Teaching.

Mr. Rooper's aim is to assist, in the actual practice of education, those who have to instruct and manage children and young people. The subjects cover a wide range, but some points that perhaps seem lightly handled, as, for instance, the study of apperception, have in reality received more than a superficial consideration. The writer has put together, briefly and clearly, the results of a wide study and varied experience of educational problems, and made accessible important statements and conclusions which are buried in pamphlets, foreign blue-books, and ponderous philo sophical treatises.

THE RELATION OF MANUAL OCCUPATIONS TO OTHER STUDIES.
By T. G. ROOPER, M.A., H.M.I.

Reprinted in Pamphlet form from "School and Home Life." 6d. net.
A Lecture given at the Yorkshire College, Leeds, mainly to teachers of
Elementary Schools, and published at their request.

READING AND RECITATION.

Two Lectures by T. G. ROOPER, M.A., H.M.I.,

Tastefully printed in Pamphlet form. 9d.

and F. B. LOTT, M.A., H.M.I.

This little book contains rules and suggestions on the subject, which cannot fail to be useful to every teacher. It will be found more interesting, too, since the issue of Circular No. 408 by the Board of Education.

ELEMENTARY FRENCH ACCIDENCE, WITH EXERCISES.

By G. H. CLARKE, M.A., and W. G. GRIFFITHS, M.A.

116 pages, Crown 8vo, bound in Limp Art Cloth, 1/3 net.

Twenty years' experience has convinced the compilers of this French Grammar that the study of Accidence is essential to learners. Without a systematic collection of tables and conjugations a revision of what has been learnt is impossible, much uncertainty arises, and haziness prevails.

The regular use of this book obviates these difficulties, and forms a definite guide as to the progress of the pupils.
