No Report has been received from the Inspector on the state of this school during the past year, and no scholars proved themselves qualified for scholarships at the annual examination.

Mr. Watson, the head master, was transferred to Bancoorah during the year, the state of his health rendering it impossible for him to remain any longer at Sylhet.

His place was filled by Mr. Miles.

From the remote situation of this district, and the general bad attendance on the part of the scholars, the eventual success of this Institution seems highly problematical.

No report has been received from the Inspector on this school during the past year, but its condition and prospects were considered satisfactory.

At the annual examination no less than five students proved themselves qualified for scholarships, but unfortunately none were available for award.

It was, however, found practicable during the course of the year to transfer some scholarships temporarily from Sylhet to this school, and as out of the five boys, qualified at the examination, two had left the school for the purpose of seeking employment, and one had proceeded to the Kishnagur College, the two remaining, viz. Brijonauth Mookerjie and Ramkomul Shaha were presented with scholarships, and accordingly joined the Dacca College.

Mr. Tydd, the head master, having been removed to Dacca, Mr. Sinclair was nominated to the vacancy in August 1847. At the annual examination five boys were qualified to hold junior scholarships, but only one being available, it was awarded to Hurrimohun Mullick, who was directed to join the College at Hooghly.

The internal arrangement of the school and the progress of the scholars appear on the whole satisfactory; and the head master is devoting his attention to the removal of the existing defects of the system, which principally manifest themselves in careless writing and incorrect pronunciation.

There were unfortunately no vacant scholarships available for this Institution at the annual examination. The Committee testify to the increased appreciation of the Institution on the part of the inhabitants, and to the general progress of the scholars under the management of Mr. Fell and his subordinates: 78 boys were borne on the rolls at the period of the examination, some few being the sons of wealthy persons, but the remainder being principally the children of natives holding offices under Government, and others of the middle classes of native society.
