From the Abkaree Commissioner, Dacca Division,

To the Secretary to the Council of Education, Fort William. Dacca: 18th April, 1848.

SIR,

In continuation of my letters No. 405, of the 15th of February and No. 822, of the 30th of March 1847, I have the honor to forward a statement, shewing the appointments given within the last official year, to young men who have been educated at those Colleges or Schools, where English is taught.

2. All the young men employed under me, continue to discharge their duties in a satisfactory manner.

3. The Principal of the Dacca College Mr. Lewis, informs me, that he wishes to have the names of qualified students of that institution entered in the list of the Council of Education, published by order of Government, and I hope that his application, which will be made through Mr. Lodge, the Inspector of Government Colleges and Schools, may prove successful. I mention the wishes of Mr. Lewis in this letter merely that I may record my opinion, that I am not restricted to the list of the Council in the selection of candidates, and I shall consequently give the students of the Dacca College, when qualified, a full share of the patronage at my disposal.
