Mr. Hargrave, in notes on Coke's Litt. 110, a. says, it is with great pleasure that we cite Mr. Douglas's work, as it affords the opportunity of congratulating the student on the accession of u collection of excellent reports on the law of parliamentary elec tion, accompanied with an instructive historical preface, and very judicious annotations, and is the only work of the kind, except one lately published from Mr. Glanvil's manuscript; and that they

are both particularly valuable on account of their tendency to diffuse the knowledge of a branch of law, which before was too much confined to the narrow circle of the few favourites in possession of the practice. See also Hatsell's Preced. of proceed. in h. of

61. WILKES'S (Mr.) case. The case of Mr. Wilkes for the publication of No. 45, gave rise to the discussion of several important questions:

1. The plea of privilege as member of parliament, to discharge him from commitment to the Tower, on the general warrant of the secretaries of state.

This question was argued in the court of C. P. 2d May, 1763, and the opinion of the court delivered by Sir C. Pratt, (afterwards Ld. Camden,) 6th May, and is found in

61. (2) Some observations on the late determination for discharging Mr. Wilkes, from his commitment to the Tower, &c. (by P. C. Webb, esq.) 4to. 1763, (in which the precedents on that head are collected.)
