were held at Boston, most of them very largely attended, on various aspects of the Peace question, in several of which your delegates took part. Amongst others Mr. Alexander attended a meeting of the New Century Club in Boston, at which he gave, by request, a sketch of the origin and work of our Association. When the Congress was over, a number of meetings in promotion of its objects were held in various American cities, including series of meetings in New York and Philadelphia the following week, in many of which one or both of your delegates took part. A meeting was also held at New Britain, Connecticut, the home of Elihu Burritt, who originated the idea of our Association, in connection with the erection of a statue to his memory. This meeting was to have been addressed by Mr. Alexander, who was, however, prevented by temporary indisposition from attending, but sent a telegram expressing his regret at being unable to take part. Dr. Darby afterwards gave a lecture at New Britain on Elihu Burritt, which was well attended. Dr. Darby also lectured on International Law to the Law Society of the University of Toronto. We are glad to be able to add that, since the Congress, the United States Government has signed permanent arbitration treaties similar in their terms to those previously signed between Great Britain, France, and other Powers, with France, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, and Italy. It has also issued invitations to a second Hague Convention, in accordance with the promise given by President Roosevelt to the deputation from the Interparliamentary Conference, and these invitations have been generally accepted by the other Powers, though the holding of the Conference is postponed till after the close of the war between Russia and Japan.
