This collection is especially designed for teaching Mineralogy, but in order to render it more valuable to those using it for illustrating Chemical lectures I have left out some of the less important silicates, and have put in some of the rare metallic minerals like Allanite and Samarskite in the latter of which Prof. De Lafontaine, of Chicago, has recently discovered two new elements. It is believed the preceding list will be found an improvement on the one of which we have put up over 2000 sets during the last three years and which have given universal satisfaction. It is arranged according to the system of Prof. T. Egleston, Prof. of Mineralogy in the School of Mines, New York. We also put up a series of 200, including 123 species, especially recommended for Mining Engineers by him. We have put in nearly all the varieties of Quartz, in order to illustrate the manifold forms a species may take and still retain the same composition. The collections of 100 or more illustrate the principal species and all grand subdivisions in Dana and other works on Mineralogy; every Crystalline System; all the principal Ores and every known Element. The collections are labelled with a printed label that can only be removed by soaking. The labels, except of the crystals and fragments, give Dana's species number, the name, locality, and in most cases, the composition of the Mineral. All collections accompanied by an Illustrated Catalogue and table of species, by means of which most minerals may be verified without apparatus. Catalogue and table sent free to all customers, to others on receipt of 10 cents to pay postage and trouble of sending. The appended list will be quite valuable to those whe do not possess Dana's System of Mineralogy and will save those who have it considerable trouble if they wish to familiarize themselves with the names that the above species include. The numbers, in the order given above, are followed by the principal synonyms and variety names given in Dana, under the species. The species name given above is not repeated even when it would ordinarily be needed to complete the sense, e. g., for cannel coal, cannel is given. Under 2 we have anthracite, bituminous, native coke, lignite, caunel, torbanite, mineral charcoal. 3. Plumbago, black lead, carburet of iron. 4. Fossil copal, retinite. 5. Seymour, of 47 Murray Street, New York, (now a Branch Depot of A. E. Foote's Establishment), and to close out stock, will be sold at the price he asked, or less. One of his pamphlets spoken of by Prof. Dana, accompanies It must be borne in mind that these prices are only average and are constantly changing. Of course as the list of species is complete there are many that have never been priced. The number preceding the name indicates the Species, and the number following, the page in Dana's System of Mineralogy on which the name is found. Price in dollars and cents. It is a very difficult matter to fix a range of prices that shall give a general idea from month to month of what is on hand. Although our stock is the largest in the world, there are many things priced in the following list that I have but one or two specimens of at the present time, but a week from this time I might have a ton in. The lowest price usually indicates such a small and usually massive specimen as a student would wish for study, and the highest price usually indicates a finely crystallized specimen, such as would grace the cabinet of the amateur. There are many things priced from 10 to 25 cents in the catalogue, that I can furnish small Aglaite A.J. Such are Actinolite, Albite, Allanite, etc., etc. Of many things, such as Acadiolite. Agirite, Acmite, Achroite, Adularia, etc., etc., I have large museum specimens that come much higher. As revised; this price list is the best check list ever published. At some future time, an appendix, arranging the varie ties under the species name may be published, but at present it is believed, that the preceding of the variety name, with the species number, serves the same purpose. Minerals can be sent by mail at one cent per ounce. They should be marked with a printed label, or they may be numbered to correspond with a list placed on the outside of the package, or sent in a letter. The additions to the list are not strictly alphabetical, but they are always at the top or bottom of each page, and as the type is also different, the species or variety can readily be found in this sup plemental list, if it is not in the strictly alphabetical portion. 228 Antimony Ochre 188. 25c. 5.00 316 Argillite 859. 5c. to 25c.
