List of military classes of animals to be shown at horse shows. The following list of military classes of animals to be shown at horse shows is published for the information and guidance of all concerned:

MILITARY CLASSES.

1. Officer's charger (light and middle weight, up to carrying a rider weighing 165 pounds).

Open to all nations and to all branches of the Regular Service, including reserve officers on the inactive list, and the National Guard. Officers' or Government horses only are eligible. Sex: Stallion, gelding, or mare.

Height: 15 to 16 hands.

Weight: Minimum 900 pounds.

Age: Minimum 3 years past.

Must be serviceably sound.

Horses to be shown at a walk, collected and extended; trot, collected and extended; gallop, collected and extended; and such of the following movements as the judges may require: Turning on forehand, turning on the haunches, two tracking, backing, and change of lead on a figure of 8, and on straight line. The field test to be once around over four 3-foot obstacles. Riders must be officers in uniform. Equipment optional.

NOTE. It is suggested that as many of the training movements as time will permit be demanded by the judges. In large classes it may be advisable to do preliminary judging before the final appearance in the ring. It is strongly recommended that all horses which show at the preliminary judging that they are manifestly out of class be eliminated before final appearance in the ring.

2. Officer's charger (heavyweight, up to carrying a rider weighing 200 pounds).

Height: Minimum 15.2 hands.

Age: Minimum 3 years past.

3. Trooper's mount.

Sex: Gelding or mare.
Height: 15 to 16 hands.
Age: Minimum 5 years.

Must be serviceably sound.

To be shown at a walk, collected and extended; trot, canter, and gallop; to turn on forehand, back readily, stand while being mounted. The field test to be once around over four 3-foot obstacles.

Riders must be enlisted men of the Regular Service or National Guard, or members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, in uniform. Equipment optional.

Weight: 1,000 to 1,250 pounds, depending upon height. Able to carry 260 pounds. Ability to live on short rations and to keep going at moderate speed are essential requirements. To keep going is more essential than a burst of speed.

Serviceably sound, well broken to saddle, comfortable to ride, possessing square and elastic gaits at walk, trot, and gallop only.

To be shown under saddle by any rider.

Open to privately owned horses or to Government horses.

5. Artillery teams (for light or horse batteries). Open to all Field Artillery organizations of the Regular Army, National Guard, and Reserve Officers' Training Corps units.

Chief of section and six-horse team drawing regulation light Field Artillery gun with regulation harness equipment and personnel. No cannoneers.

Height: 15 to 16 hands.

Weight: 1,200 to 1,450 pounds, depending upon height.

To be serviceably sound.

To be shown at a walk and trot in such maneuvers of the piece as may be prescribed by the judges.

Entries must be bona fide teams and used as such in their units. No commissioned officer to participate in actual showing.
