A New Dictionary of Quotations from the Greek, Latin,

and Modern Languages.
TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH, AND ACCOMPANIED WITH ILLUSTRATIONS,
HISTORICAL, POETICAL, AND ANECDOTICAL.

New Edition, crown 8vo, cloth, with an Index, 7/8
This Work contains nearly Six Thousand Quotations and Proverbs from the Greek,
Latin, French, and other languages, alphabetically arranged, and accompanied with an
Index referring to more than Fifteen Thousand of the principal words.

“If, as we think, this is a book which has been wished for at times by nearly everybody, the inference seems to be that nearly everybody ought to buy it. Many are the anxious inquiries addressed to "Notes and Queries,' and answered after a reasonable number of weeks, which might have been spared, or rather answered, as soon as made, had this small volume been at the interrogator's elbow. Nor does it treat only of quotations, properly so called; but proverbs, expressions in frequent use but imperfectly understood, and many curious words are explained. The work is made still more useful by a very copious index."--Gentleman's Magazine.

“A clever combination of narrative and allegory.”—Churchman's Magasine. “ The idea is admirably worked out and not overdone.”—Edinburgh Daily Review.

“ An attractive volume—youthful readers may gain much from such tales about practical piety.”—Record.

“Its chapters, so full of interest, will be greedily devoured by our hungry lads, whose eyes will sparkle at the appearance of the volume and its telling pictures."—Word and Work.

“A book of a very useful class, viz., for reading aloud to, or alone by, children in detached portions—the narratives are successfully woven together and are well varied.”The Exchange.

EDUCATIONAL MAPS.

PUBLISHED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE COMMISSIONERS OF NATIONAL EDUCATION IN IRELAND.

(SERIES A.)

The Publishers beg to direct the attention of all interested in education to this series, which has been found more successful than any other in imparting geographical knowledge. The Maps combine accuracy of drawing with boldness of style, and have been specially constructed for the use of the National Schools of Ireland, under the direction of the Commissioners.

As a lengthened description of the style of engraving will not afford the same knowledge as a moment's glance, Messrs. C. Smith & Son have prepared a specimen sheet shewing a considerable portion of their Map of Europe. which they will send to any one desiring to become acquainted with this series.

Railways being now an important feature in Geography, the Maps of England, Ireland, Scotland, the two Maps of the British Isles, and the Geological British Isles, shew all existing lines.
