THE OTTOMANS IN EUROPE,

WITH COLOURED MAPS OF THE PANSLAVONIC SECRET SOCIETIES'
PROPOSED REPUBLIC AND EMPIRE.

BY JOHN MILL.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

"High praise must be given to Mr. John Mill's book, entitled 'The Ottomans in Europe,' and we hope that Mr. Gladstone, who inquired tauntingly why his opponents did not answer his pamphlet, will, as well as all his followers, peruse it carefully."-Standard. "Mr. John Mill's Ottomans in Europe' ought to receive attention from every student of the Eastern Question."- Daily Telegraph.

"Mr. John Mill writes rationally enough; and he is never wanting in vigour."--Pall Mall Gazette.

"If some of those who talk and write so much about the Eastern Question would read up a little the subject on which they profess to be au fait, what a blessing it would be to the world at large! Of pamphlets on this topic we have had more than enough, and, strange to say, those which have been produced by public men are, as a rule, to be least depended upon. But with books it is different. Several excellent and trustworthy works have appeared on this subject since what may with truth be called the Russian invasion of Bulgaria began, and of these by no means the least valuable is the volume which Dr. John Mill has just published. In fact, it is the first work that has as yet appeared which deals with the question of the Bulgarian' and other atrocities as they deserve to be treated. Mr. Mill is no mere theorist; he evidently knows what he is writing about. His treatment of the question is divided into three parts: first, The Eastern Question;' second, 'The Bulgarian and other Atrocities;' and third, The Solution of the Eastern Question.' These three subjects the author treats with a masterly hand. His pages upon what he calls 'Political Holloway's Pills' are worth any money. It is a sad pity that a few extracts from this part of his book were not circulated at St. James's Hall, when the so-called National' Conference took place. We cordially recommend the volume to all who wish to be well posted up on the burning question of the day."-Whitehall Review.

GEORGE SAND'S GREAT WORK,
CONSUELO,

THE ONLY ENGLISH EDITION.

The Weekly Budget says: "We cannot be too grateful to Messrs. WELDON & Co. for having placed in the hands of the English reading public this excellent translation of the most characteristic romance of the world-famous GEORGE SAND. It is truly a wonderful production, thrilling, absorbing, fascinating, bearing upon every page the evidence of a genius as commanding as it is original. The merits of the book are so self-apparent that it needs only to be known to command as great a circulation in England as it has attained in France and over the whole Continent, especially as it is now issued at a price which places it within the reach of the million."
