PREFACE.

THIS Hymnal has been compiled by a Committee of the Presbyterian Church of England, appointed by the Synod which met at Newcastle-on-Tyne, in April, 1881. The following were members of the Committee :

The work is based, indeed, upon "Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship," (Messrs. J. Nisbet & Co.) the copyrights of which have been transferred to it by the proprietors; but the changes made have been so great, and the reconstruction of the book has been so complete, that it was deemed necessary to give it a new title, and "CHURCH PRAISE" has been adopted with the view of distinguishing it from other Hymnals.

Should any copyright have been unintentionally infringed, the Committee beg to be forgiven, and will be glad to acknowledge their indebtedness to authors or proprietors in the next edition of the book.
