1 ƒ COME, praise your Lord and Saviour 3 O Jesus, we too praise Thee,

In strains of holy mirth;

Give thanks to Him, O children,

Who lived a child on earth.
He loved the little children

And called them to His side, cres His loving arms embraced them, And for their sake He died.

(Boys only.)

2 mf O Jesus, we would praise Thee
With songs of holy joy,
For Thou on earth didst sojourn,
A pure and spotless boy.
Make us like Thee obedient,
Like Thee from sin-stains free,
cres Like Thee in God's own temple,
In lowly home like Thee.

The lowly maiden's Son;
In Thee all gentlest graces

Are gathered into one.

cres Oh, give that best adornment

That Christian maid can wear,dim The meek and quiet spirit,

Which shone in Thee so fair.

(All)

4 f O Lord, with voices blended
We sing our songs of praise :
Be Thou the Light and Pattern
Of all our childhood's days;
And lead us ever onward,

That, while we stay below,
We may like Thee, O Jesus,
In grace and wisdom grow.

Amen.

421

"Praise our God, all ye His servants, and ye that fear Him, both small and great."

1 mf ABOVE yon clear blue sky,

Beyond our feeble sight,

f The God of glory dwells on high In everlasting light.

mf Around His glorious throne

The holy angels stand;

f In songs of praise their King they own, Or fly at His command.

2 mf And we may praise Him too,

And serve Him here below;
He stoops to mark what children do,
Their inmost thoughts to know;
mf And though He reigns above,
Where angels ceaseless praise,
He will accept our humble love
And lead us in His ways.

3 mf Oh, may we humbly seek
To do His holy will,

And try, with thankful hearts and meek,
To sing His praises still;

f And then, for Jesus' sake

Who came for us to die,

cres Our happy spirits He will take

To praise Him in the sky. Amen.

423 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; let us rejoice, and be glad in it."

I mf AGAIN the morn of gladness,

The morn of light, is here;
And earth itself looks fairer,
And heaven itself more near;
The bells, like angel voices,

Speak peace to every breast;
And all the land lies quiet
To keep the day of rest.
f "Glory be to Jesus!"

Let all His children say; "He rose again, He rose again, On this glad day!"

2 mf Again, O loving Saviour,

The children of Thy grace
Prepare themselves to seek Thee
Within Thy chosen place.
Our song shall rise to greet Thee,

If Thou our hearts wilt raise;
If Thou our lips wilt open,

Our mouth shall show Thy praise.
"Glory be to Jesus!" &c.

3 mf The shining choir of angels

That rest not day or night,
The crowned and palm-decked martyrs,
The saints arrayed in white,

The happy lambs of Jesus

In pastures fair above,-
cres These all adore and praise Him
Whom we too praise and love.
"Glory be to Jesus!" &c.
4 mf The Church on earth rejoices
To join with these to-day;
In every tongue and nation

She calls her sons to pray;
Across the northern snow-fields,
Beneath the Indian palms,
She makes the same pure offering
And sings the same sweet psalms,
"Glory be to Jesus!" &c.

5 f Tell out, sweet bells, His praises!
Sing, children, sing His name!
Still louder and still farther

His mighty deeds proclaim,

cres Till all whom He redeemèd

Shall own Him Lord and King;
Till every knee shall worship,
And every tongue shall sing.
ff "Glory be to Jesus!"
Let all creation say;
"He rose again, He rose again,

On this glad day!" Amen.

HENRY SMART,

[graphic]

"Behold, I have given Him... for a leader and commander to the people."

424

If BRIGHTLY gleams our banner, Pointing to the sky,

Waving wanderers onward

To their home on high!

mf Journeying o'er the desert, Glady thus we pray,

f And with hearts united,

Take our heavenward way.

ff Brightly gleams our banner, &c.

2 mf Jesus, Lord and Master,
At Thy sacred feet,
Here, with hearts rejoicing,
See Thy children meet.
p Often have we left Thee,
Often gone astray;

cres Keep us, mighty Saviour,

In the narrow way.

Brightly gleams our banner, &c.

3 mf Pattern of our childhood, Once Thyself a child, Make our childhood holy, dim Pure, and meek, and mild.

350

In the hour of danger
Whither can we flee,

cres Save to Thee, dear Saviour,
Only unto Thee?

Brightly gleams our banner, &c.

4 mf All our days direct us

In the way we go,
Lead us on victorious

Over every foe;

Bid Thine angels shield us When the storm-clouds lour; Pardon, Lord, and save us In the last dread hour. Brightly gleams our banner, &c 5 f Then with saints and angels May we join above, Offering prayers and praises At Thy throne of love. When the toil is over,

Then come rest and peace,

cres Jesus in His beauty!

f Songs that never cease!

[Amen.

Brightly gleams our banner, &c.
