A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE REPORT OF THE CROFTER ROYAL COMMISSION.

BY ALEXANDER MACKENZIE, F.S.A., Scot.,

Editor of the "Celtic Magazine," and author of several Works on the History and Social State of the Highlands, with life-like Portrait of CHARLES FRASERMACKINTOSH, Esq., M.P.

EIGHTY PAGES, DEMY 8vo.

From A. & W. MACKENZIE, Celtic Magazine Office, Inverness, or may be ordered through any Bookseller.

"Mr Mackenzie, the well known editor of the Celtic Magazine, knows more about the Highlands and Highlanders than any man now living, and for this reason his analysis of the report of the Royal Commissioners who recently inquired into the condition and griev ances of the crofters is eminently worthy of public attention. Mr Mackenzie not only analyses and epitomises the report. but he criticises it likewise, pointing out its defects as well as its excellencies. Many persons who could not find time to wade through the report itself will be thankful to Mr Mackenzie for furnishing them with the careful and discriminating analysis of it, from which they will be able to gather all they care to know, and indeed a 1 that they require to know in order to an intelligent understanding of the question."-Dundee Advertiser.

"Prepared by the man, who, of all men, is best fitted for the execution of such a task. Drawn up with conspicuous fairness, most admirable temper and in a manner to which no one can take the slightest objection."-Leader in Greenock Telegraph.

Upon all who are desirous of becoming acquainted with the leading features of the Crofter Commissioners' report on the condition of the Highlands and Islands, Mr Alexander Mackenzie, Inverness, the energetic editor of the Celtic Magazine, has conferred a real boon by issuing a pamph let, extending to about 80 pages, containing a careful and interesting analysis of the pondercas volume."-People's Journal.

"In a well got up pamphlet of 80 pages Mr Alexander Mackenzie, editor of the Celtic Magasine, gives a capital analysis of the report of the Crofter Commission. He also tests the -everal recoma mendations of the Commissioners by his own knowledge of the circumstances of the Highlands, and shows wherein they are inadequate as a remedy for existing evils. The pamphlet is a valuable contribution to an understanding of the Crofter question and the proposals of the Commissioners. Perthshire Advertiser.

"An able paper."-Northern Chronicle. "Admirable Analysis.

It is written by one who is a thorough master of the subject, and who writes with moderation, good sense, and most admirable temper."-Leader in Kilmarnock Standard.

"It cannot fail for several reasons, to have an interest all its own. May be accepted as reflecting the opinion that is likely to prevail among the Crofters and Cottars."-Leader in Aberdeen Journal

"Invaluable for reference to those especially to whom the blue book is inaccessible.”—Northern "A most excellent Analysis. brought out the most prominent points in a highly suc

Ensign.

cessful manner."-Caithness Courier.

65 West Ferry Road, Millwall, London.

The objects of this Fund are to defend the legal rights of the Highlan 1 Crofters and Cottars, and assist any who may now or hereafter be capriciously evicted. Funds are urgently required to enable the Association to defend a number of Crofters who allege that they have been singled out for eviction on account of evidence given before the Royal Commission, or because they have joined branches of the Highland Land Law Reform Association. It is computed that if the evictions at present threatened in the Highlands are carried out, over 200 families, numbering between seven and eight hundred souls, will be rendered landless and homeless.
