Senator Pepper has been delayed. However, we can take care of these preliminaries. This is the first meeting of the subcommittee consisting of Senator Pepper, chairman; Senators Douglas, Withers, and Thomas, and Senators Taft, Aiken, and Donnell, on the various bills which have to do with amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act. (The bills are as follows:) [S. 58, 81st Cong., 1st sess.] A BILL To raise the minimum wage standards of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That subsection (a) of section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 is amended by striking out all of such subsection through the figure "(5)" in the last paragraph and inserting in lieu thereof the following: "SEC. 6. (a) Every employer shall pay to each of his employees who is engaged in commerce or in the production of goods for commerce wages at the following "(1) Not less than 75 cents an hour from the effective date of this Act; and "(2)." SEC. 2. Subsection (b) of section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 is hereby repealed. rates: SEC. 3. Subsection (c) of section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 is amended by striking out the term "paragraphs (1), (2), and (3)" and inserting in lieu thereof "paragraph (1)". SEC. 4. Section 8 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 is amended by striking out the term "40 cents an hour" wherever it appears in such section and inserting in lieu thereof "75 cents an hour". SEC. 5. The amendments made by this Act shall become effective upon the expiration of sixty days from the date of its enactment. [8. 67, 81st Cong., 1st sess.] A BILL To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 in respect to rates of wages in Puerto Rico Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That after the expiration of sixty days after the date of enactment of this Act the provisions of subsection (e) of section 5 and subsection (c) of section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended. shall not apply with respect to Puerto Rico. 1 |
