The said Thomas Spalding took his seat in the House, as a Representative for the State of Georgia; the oath to support the Constitution of the United States being first administered to him by Mr. Speaker, according to law.

The several orders of the day were farther postponed until Thursday next.
And then the House adjourned until Thursday morning eleven o'clock.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1805.

A petition of sundry merchants of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsyl vania, whose names are thereunto subscribed, was presented to the House and read, praying that the time may be extended for taking the oath and giving bond in cases of goods exported for drawback.

Ordered, That the said petition be committed to the Committee of the Whole House to whom was committed, on the twentieth instant, the bill "to extend the time of taking the oath and giving bond in cases of drawback, and for other purposes.”

A petition of sundry inhabitants of the counties of Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca, in the State of New York, whose names are thereunto subscribed, was presented to the House and read, praying that a cross post route may be established from Onondaga, by Pompey, to Tully; thence, by Homer, Virgil, and Dryden, to intersect the post office in Ithaca, at the head of the Cayuga Lake.

Also, a petition of sundry inhabitants of the county of Otsego, in the State of New York, whose names are thereunto subscribed, praying the establishment of a mail route from the town of Cherry Valley to the town of Sangersfield.

Ordered, That the said petitions be severally referred to the Committee on Post Office and Post Roads.

The House, according to the order of the day, resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole House on the bill for the relief of Edward Toppan, George Jenkins, and Willian Currier; and, after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. John Cotton Smith reported that the committee had, according to order, had the said bill under consideration, and made no amendment thereto.

Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed, and read the third time to-morrow.

Mr. Findley, from the Committee of Elections, to whom it was referred to examine the certificates and other credentials of the members returned to serve in this House, made a report, in part, thereupon; which he delivered in at the Clerk's table, where the same was read, and is as followeth :

Ordered, That the Committee of the Whole House to whom was committed, on the seventeenth instant, the report of the Committee of Claims on a petition of the crew of the late United States' frigate Philadelphia, be discharged from the consideration thereof. The House then proceeded to consider the said report at the Clerk's table, and the resolution contained therein, in the words following, to wit:

"Resolved, That the said petitioners have leave to withdraw their petition," was, on the question put thereupon, agreed to by the House.

The House, according to the order of the day, resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole House on the report of the committee to whom was referred, on the twelfth instant, a resolution respecting William Eaton; and, after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Gregg reported that the committee had, according to order, had the said report under consideration, and agreed to the amendments therein proposed to the aforesaid resolution.

The said amendments were then read at the Clerk's table; and, on the question that the House do agree with the Committee of the Whole House in the first of the said amendments, to strike out the word "sword," in the fourth line of the resolution, and. in lieu thereof, to insert "medal of gold, with appropriate devices:”
