L.M. When Christ came down on earth of old,
He took our nature poor and low; He wore no form of angel mould,
But shared our weakness and our woe. But when He cometh back once more
Then shall be set the great white throne; And earth and heaven shall flee before
The face of Him that sits thereon. O Son of God! in glory crown'd,
The Judge ordain'd of quick and dead; O Son of Man! so pitying found
For all the tears thy people shed;
And by thy crown, and by thy grave,
And took their flight,
“Let there be light!”
Healing and light;
“ Let there be light!"
Spirit of truth and love,
Speed forth thy flight!
" Let there be light!”
Lo! He comes ! with clouds descending,
Once for favour'd sinners slain ;
Robed in dreadful majesty;
Heaven and earth shall flee away;
Come to judgment!
See! in solemn pomp appear !
Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on thine eternal throne !
Oh, come quickly!
L.M. O SAVIOUR, is thy promise fled,
Nor longer might thy grace endure To heal the sick, and raise the dead,
And preach thy Gospel to the poor? Come, Jesus, come! return again ;
With brighter beam thy servants bless, Who long to feel thy perfect reign,
And share thy kingdom's happiness. Come, JESUS, come; and, as of yore,
The prophet went to clear thy way,
A dawning to thy brighter day;
Our stony hearts for truth prepare;
power, Then come and reap thy harvest there.
L.M. HOSANNA to the living Lord ! Hosanna to th' Incarnate Word! To Christ, Creator, Saviour, King, Let earth, let heaven Hosanna sing. O Saviour! with protecting care Return to this thy House of Prayer: Assembled in thy sacred name, Where we thy parting promise claim.
But, chiefest, in our cleansed breast,
C.M. Come, let us to the Lord our God
With contrite hearts return;
The desolate to mourn.
The dawn shall bring us light:
With gladness in his sight.
Shall know Him, and rejoice ;
Like morning songs his voice.
Diffusing fragrance round;
And cheer the thirsty ground,
And shed a joyful light;
The sorrows of the night.
Light of those whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death!
Rise and chase the clouds beneath.
Thou, of life and light Creator !
In our deepest darkness rise;
Pour the day upon our eyes.
Life and joy thy beams impart;
Every meek and contrite heart.
Every burden'd soul release; By the shining of thy Spirit
Guide unto thy perfect peace.
FROM all that dwell below the skies
Eternal are thy mercies, Lord :
