RECOLLECTIONS.

I HAVE often been struck, as doubtless so have my readers, by the simple yet forcible way in which the Lord gives the poor of the flock, the uneducated, the illiterate, power to confound the wise and learned of this world, when Divine topics are discussed. The few following recollections, gathered from an old disciple, and given almost in his own words, will serve to illustrate this observation.

The oft-repeated objections being started in his hearing, that the statements of Scripture appeared contradictory, the old man said, "That brings to my mind something that happened a good many years ago, and I remember it much better than what happened last week. I was sent for one day to go up to the great house, as you enter the village, which was then occupied by a gentleman who had lately taken it, and was fitting it up to his own pleasure. I had heard he was a very learned man, and one or two said he had written a book; but for the truth of that I cannot say, having never seen it. I went at the fixed hour, and was told I was to hang a bell. I returned shortly with some tools, and was just fixing the steps, when the gentleman came into the room. Tracts for the People.
