The Grand Lodge holds its Annual Communications at the City of Sacramento on the second Tuesday in May. 3. GRAND CHAPTER OF CALIFORNIA. The M. E. Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the State of California, was organized on the 8th day of May, 1854, there being present, by their legal representatives, three constituted Chapters, viz.: San Francisco Chapter, No. 1; Sonora Chapter, No. 2; and Sacramento Chapter, No. 3, all holding under the General Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the United States of America. There are now fifteen chartered Chapters under its jurisdiction, besides one under dispensation, having an aggregate membership of about five hundred. The officers of the Grand Chapter for the present year are: O. H. Dibble, G. H. Priest, Nevada; W. W. Traylor, D. G. H. Priest, Sonora ; W. G. West, G. King, Shasta; J. A. Jackson, G. There are three Commanderies of this and the appendant orders in the State, working under charters granted by the General Grand Encampment of the United States of America-San Francisco Commandery, No. 1; Sacramento Commandery, No. 2, and Marysville Commandery, No. 3. San Francisco Commandery, No. 1, was organized under a dispensation, on the 22d December, 1852, Sir Gregory Yale, Grand Commander. At the tri-annual meeting of the General Grand Encampment, held at Lexington, Kentucky, in September, 1853, a charter was granted. The first assemblage under the charter was held on the 20th December, 1853, at which the following officers were elected: Sir Leander Ransom, Grand Commander; Sir Richard F. The Encampment Branch now consists of ten Subordinate Encampments, and numbers three hundred and twenty-four members. * The Order of Odd Fellows was established by the Roman soldiers in camp after the Order of Israelites, during the reign of Nero the Roman Emperor, which commenced in the year 55, when they were called "Fellow Citizens." The name of Odd Fellows was given by Titus Cæsar, Emperor of Rome in the year 79, from the singularity of their motions and their knowing each other by night as well as by day, and for their fidelity to him and the country.-History of the Order.
