ALLOTMENT OF JUSTICES.

It is ordered that the following allotment be made of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of this Court among the circuits, pursuant to Title 28, United States Code, Section 42, and that such allotment be entered of record, viz:

For the District of Columbia Circuit, EARL WARREN, Chief Justice.

RESIGNATION OF THE CLERK OF THE COURT

AND APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR.

Mr. James R. Browning, who had served as Clerk of the Court since August 15, 1958, resigned, effective October 23, 1961, to accept appointment as a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Mr. John F. Davis, who had served for many years as an Assistant to the Solicitor General and who had argued

than 50 cases before the Court, was appointed to succeed Judge Browning as Clerk of the Court and assumed his duties on October 23, 1961.
