Local Newspapers containing marked items of news interesting to the drug trade are always welcomed by the MEYER BROTHERS DRUGGIST.

Nampa is the Denver of Idaho.-The citizens are particularly interested in the National Irrigation Congress. As an example of the prosperity of the place they call attention to the investment of $3,000,000 which has recently been made in a big sugar beet factory.

A Pharmacopoeia Free.-The board of trustees of the U. S. P. Convention has decided to place at the disposal of each state pharmaceutical association a copy of the U. S. P. VIII to be marked as a prize for a meritorious paper on "How to Interest Physicians in the Pharmacopoeia?"

The Cleveland School of Pharmacy Alumni Association has arranged a series of parties for the winter season. The first was held November 21.

Joseph Daily, formerly of Ft. Niobrara, Neb., is now at Pinor del Rio, Cuba. He is Sergeant, First Class, of the Hospital Corps of the United States Army.

Aug. Breunert, Ph. G., of Kansas City, Mo., spent so much of his time abroad that his cards bear the information "U. S. A.". Mr. Breunert is an ex-president of the state association and active in pharmaceutical affairs.

George Bollinger has sold his store at No. 3801 State Street, Chicago, Ill., to W. E. Wallace. Mr. Bollinger has long been known as a prominent Chicago pharmacist and has earned the rest which he proposes to take at Los Angeles, Cal.

Ben Schwartz, secretary of Schwartz Brothers, Salem, Ill., is in quite poor health. He is a graduate of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, a member of the State Board of Pharmacy and has long been prominently identified with the business interest of Salem.

Frank C. Simson, of Halifax, N. S., spent a day in St. Louis on his way from Chicago to San Francisco. Mr. Simson has sold his wholesale drug business at Halifax to the merger and is now enjoying a twelve months vacation. He has recently visited Jamaica and will tour Mexico as well as the United States before going to Toronto where he will establish a manufacturing plant for the merger of nineteen wholesale drug firms of Canada.

Mr. O. O. Grady, '07, enjoyed a visit from his mother and sister, October 20.

The Junior Class has elected Mr. J. M. Bladen to represent them on the Hawkeye board.

Mr. C. C. Narum, '06, of Odebolt, was here for the Alumni football game and proved a tower of strength.

On October 26 some members of the senior and junior classes gave a dancing party at Kenyon Hall. All report a very pleasant time.

Brady Brothers, of Waterloo, have sold to C. D. Mulcahy, of La Porte and Seph. Johnson, of Waterloo, possession to be given in two weeks.

The Junior Class has elected the following officers: president, E. M. Wertz; vice-president, L. M. Ferguson; secretary, R. I. Landon; class representative, F. P. Homan.

Mr. O. H. Bruhn, '02, who has been at Scotland, South Dakota, since his graduation, has recently engaged in business at Canton, South Dakota. The firm name is Bruhn & Zepfennig

Mr. A. B. Benn, '04, who is now located at Collins, was here to attend the Iowa-Missouri football game and visit old friends. During his stay in the city he was the guest of his classmate, Mr. R. R. Fischer, of San Antonio, Tex., was in St. Louis recently on his way home from Philadelphia, where he was called by the death of his mother. Mr. Fischer was at one time located at Alexander's Pharmacy in St. Louis and later at Brand's Pharmacy. He was graduated at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1886.

Louis Boelio, who entered the School of Pharmacy two years ago as a special student, has been reappointed as assistant in general chemistry.

Mr. James Seymour, Ph. C., '94, B. S. (Pharmacy) '04, is now located at Scio, Ohio, as professor of pharmacy and chemistry in Scio College of Pharmacy.

Tod B. Roll, Ph. C., '06, is engaged with Leonard Seltzer, Ph. C., '92, who maintains two exclusively prescription stores in the city of Detroit, Mich.

Mr. Walter Pippen, who entered the School of Pharmacy with the '07 class, is engaged in the manufacturing department of Frederick Stearns & Co.. Detroit, Mich.

Frank J. Jones, Ph. C., '06, has been with the Dawson Brothers, Ann Arbor, Mich., as prescription clerk since graduation. The Dawson Brothers are both graduates of the School of Pharmacy.

Mr. Linwood A. Brown, Ph. C., '04, for some time analytical chemist in the laboratory of Merck & Co., has been appointed assistant professor of pharmacy in North Dakota Agricultural College which is located at Fargo, North Dakota.

Mr. Raymond J. Van Dorn, B. S. (Pharmacy) '05, who was employed as prescription clerk in Cushing's Pharmacy, Ann Arbor, Mich., since graduation, may now be found in Eberbach & Co.'s pharmacy and scientific apparatus supply house.

Mr. Harold C. Watkins, Ph. C., '02, with the PorterRyerson-Hoobler Co., Omaha, Neb., as manufacturing pharmacist and chemist until the destruction of the factory by fire, has recently accepted a position with Merck & Co. as analytical chemist.

Walter H. Blome, Ph. C., '98, M. S. (Pharmacy) '05, who was instructor in pharmacy at the University of Michigan during the years 1904-05 and in the summer session of the School of Pharmacy 1906, has accepted a position with Frederick Stearns & Co., Detroit, Mich., as analytical and research chemist.

The Thirty-ninth Annual Session of the School of Pharmacy began September 25 with a total enrollment twenty-five per cent larger than last year at the same time. The call for trained pharmacists and pharmaceutical chemists is greater than ever. This is to a large extent due to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Law.

A New Course in Pharmaceutical Botany which consists of lectures and laboratory work has been added to the curriculum of the first year students. It precedes the regular course in microscopical botany given by Prof. J. O. Schlotterbeck in the second semester of the first year. The new course is in charge of Prof. C. H. Kauffman.

Mr. Charles R. Eckler, Ph. C., '02, who has been employed for the past eighteen months in the analytical laboratory of Squibb & Sons, Brooklyn, N. Y., has botany at the University of Michigan. He is at the been engaged as assistant in pharmacognosy and same time pursuing graduate studies in bacteriology and pharmacology.

Mr. Lewis E. Warren, Ph. C., '03, has been reappointed holder of the Frederick Stearns & Co. Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Research. He will continue his study of the chemistry of the poison sumach under the direction of Prof. A. B. Stevens, and at the same time complete his studies for the degree of B. S. (Pharmacy). After graduation in '03 Mr. Warren was employed in the analytical laboratory of Merck & Co., New York City.
