Honor Course. Students may become Candidates for Honors in the following subjects, at each Term Examination in the Undergraduate Course: Mathematics; Classics. JUNIOR FRESHMEN, SENIOR FRESHMEN, Mathematics; Logics; Classics. JUNIOR SOPHISTERS, Mathematical Physics; Experimental Physics; Logics and History; Classics. SENIOR SOPHISTERS, Mathematical Physics; Ethics; Experimental The Students in the Junior Sophister Class, who take up Experimental Physics instead of Classics, may also become Candidates for Honors in that subject during their third, or Junior Sophister year. At the A. B. Degree Examination, Students may go out in Honors in five subjects, viz. : Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. Classics. Logics and Ethics. Experimental Physics. History, Political Science, and English Literature. The regulations connected with the various classes of Honors and Prizes have been already given (vide page 25). It is to be remarked, that at all Examinations for Honors, Candidates are liable to be examined in the ordinary subjects of Examination of the Course in which they present themselves for Honors, in addition to those specified below. The principle on which the following schedule of the subjects for the Honor Examinations in Classics has been framed, is to test the proficiency of the Student by a twofold trial: First. As to his minute and critical knowledge of certain defined portions of the Greek and Latin authors. Secondly. As to his general and independent knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages and their literature, to be proved by his ability to write an accurate version of passages not included in the portions which he is required to study minutely, as well as to answer, in writing, such general questions connected with the languages and their literature as a well-instructed Student may, according to his standing, be expected to be conversant with. With these objects in view, the manner of conducting the Classical Honor Examinations will be as follows: 1. Candidates for Honors will be required to know minutely the text-books of the ordinary Classical Course at each Examination. 2. Papers of questions will be proposed in Ancient History and Geography, Grammar, and General Literature, and also subjects for composition in Greek and Latin Prose and Verse. 3. The Candidates will be examined by papers in passages se lected from the Greek and Latin text-books of the ordinary Examination, or those specified in the following list: There shall be a general meeting of the Classical Examiners previous to each Examination, when the papers set by each Examiner shall be submitted to his colleagues for their approval. Several passages from each author will be proposed for translation, so as to afford to the Candidates a certain power of selection. During the first two years, Candidates for Honors will be regularly lectured and examined in definite portions of Ancient History. § III.-HONOR COURSE IN LOGICS AND METAPHYSICS. SENIOR FRESHMAN YEAR. Separate Honors in Logics will be given in future at each Examination in the Senior Freshman year; and the following Course has been appointed, in addition to the ordinary subjects of Examination : MICHAELMAS, Whately's Logic. Whately as before. Stewart's Elements of the Philosophy of the Human Whately, Stewart, and Bacon, as before. Remainder of Cousin's Psychology, and Appendix. These Examinations will be conducted both vivâ voce and by papers. § IV. HISTORY AND POLITICAL ECONOMY. JUNIOR SOPHISTER YEAR. Separate Honors will be given in Logics, Metaphysics, History, and Political Economy, in the Junior Sophister year; and the following Course has been appointed, in addition to the Logics and Metaphysics of the second year : HILARY, TRINITY,.
