in which Boys and Girls are taught apart-continued.

Other Expenses.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS,

£. 8. d.

Girls very clean and neat. Instruction very good in both schools. The upper classes

compose well, and are taught the Scriptures with intelligence. Pains taken with the Liturgy. Boys' school much improved since last visit. An infant-school much needed. Children quiet; girls clean and neat. Several chapters of Scripture learned by the elder

children. Room for improvement in exercising the intelligence of the boys. Mistress

a good needlewoman; gentle. 14 19 6 Girls quiet and orderly. Instruction of the boys satisfactory; some four or five draw and £3 15 maps ; composition fair. Girls' memories are worked more than their intelligence ; Rewards. their enunciation and writing good. Master appears to do his work with pains and

faithfulness. Room for improvement in the discipline and instruction. Some few of the elder children

answer nicely in geography and fairly in the Scriptures. Master is said not to want

ability. Instruction and discipline of the boys respectable. Attendance of children fluctuating.

Mistress has had charge of the girls but a few weeks, and must not be held accountable for the smallness of their progress. Master trained at Winchester; pleasing and intel

ligent. Room for improvement in the instruction. Girls clean. Children are gathered out of a

poor district.

Room for improvement in the instruction and discipline of the boys. Girls are taught

and managed in a pleasing manner; their discipline appears to be good. The parish labours under peculiar difficulties. Children quiet, clean, and orderly. Ventilation improved since last inspection. Discipline good. Arithmetic accurate; writing fair. Two of the elder boys compose

fairly on their slates.

1 0 0 Room for improvement in the instruction and discipline of the boys. The girls have

learned some Scripture, and are taught with intelligence. Arithmetic fair. Discipline

satisfactory. 3 0 0 Children clean. Instruction needs to be more carried through the school, especially by

the master. Good building, except that the schoolroom and residence communicate

internally. 89 6 117 Boys remarkably clean and orderly. The elder children learn the gospel or the epistle

for the Sunday. Arithmetic and writing of the boys good. Master appears to be well acquainted with the Scriptures, and to have his heart in his work. He should distribute his questions more to his less advanced boys; and some improvement should be

made in getting on the little ones in reading. £12 Re. The first class of boys compose well; have a good knowledge of the Scriptures ; writing. wards. arithmetic, and spelling well taught; the lowest class ought to be in an infant-school.

Some of the girls have learned a good deal of Scripture, and write fairly on their

slates. The upper boys have learned the first three sections of the “Faith and Duty," and have

begun Nicholls' Sunday Exercises ; but there is room for considerable improvement in the instruction and discipline of both schools. The district from which the children

are gathered is a wild one. Boys compose well, write well, do arithmetic well, are well advanced in reading. Re

ceive gifts for coming to school, yet do not attend regularly. The girls also are taught with great pains, intelligence, and success. A large fund accumulated as an eudowment for the school. 21 girls had learned the gospel for the previous Sunday: of these 13 had learned the epistle as well.
