BRAZIL.

Leprosy---Malaria-Manaos.

Information dated November 18, 1922, shows a total of 300 officially recorded cases of leprosy in Manaos, Brazil, with an estimated number of 1,000 cases. Many of the cases were stated not to have originated in Manaos, but to have come from the surrounding country, attracted by reports of a lazaretto to be erected in the city. Malaria was stated to be prevalent among the native population, but of rare occurrence among foreigners. The population of Manaos was estimated at 30,000 or 35,000.

CANADA.

Communicable Diseases - Ontario --November, 1922 (Comparative).

Communicable diseases were notified in the Province of Ontario, Canada, during the month of November, 1922, as follows:

Venereal diseases were reported in the Province during the month of November, 1922, as follows: Chancroid, 4 cases; gonorrhea, 217 cases, syphilis, 147 cases, as compared with two cases of chancroid, 287 cases of gonorrhea, and 256 cases of syphilis reported during the month of November, 1921.
