Pray that by them you may be made wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

MARCH 30. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm cxxxix. 23, 24. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your ownselves. 2 Cor. xiii. 5.

Meditate on the benefit of self-examination, &c. Pray for grace to enable you to have frequent recourse to this Christian practice, &c.

MARCH 31. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whither thou goest. Eccles. ix. 10.

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John ix. 4.

MEDITATION.

This day reminds me that a quarter of this year has already elapsed. Time is a talent for which I shall have to be accountable! How have I spent my time ? Have I been diligent in performing my daily devotions, and in living agreeably

E

thereto ? Have I been regular in my attendance at the house of God, and have I listened to what has been said there, with humility and reverence? Have I been kind and charitable, as far as opportunity and means would permit, to my neighbours, praying for them and doing to them as I would wish to be done to by them, forgiving injuries and imitating the example of my Saviour who went about doing good? or have I been remiss in all these holy duties? If I have been negligent hitherto in working out my salvation, and in doing all the good that I can, let me now begin in earnest to reform my conduct; for I read in the portion of scripture appointed for this day's meditation, that there is no work to be done in the grave, whither I and all mankind are hastening.

I must now work while it is day,
And use my utmost might:

I must not trifle nor delay

My labour till the night.

Lord, grant that I my time may spend

According to thy will;

And to thy word a quick ear lend,

To keep my soul from ill.
