competence of the Candidates to pass, viva voce questions to any Candidate in the subjects in which they are appointed to examine.

Candidates for the Degree of M.A. shall be examined in one or more of the following branches of knowledge :

I. CLASSICS.

II. MATHEMATICS AND NATURAL PHILOSOPHY.

III. LOGIC, MORAL PHILOSOPHY, PHILOSOPHY OF THE MIND, POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY, POLITICAL ECO

NOMY.

No Candidate shall be approved by the Examiners unless he show a competent knowledge in one of these branches of knowledge.

The Examination in CLASSICS shall include the following subjects:

The Greek and Latin Classic Authors.

Prose Composition in Greek, Latin and English.

Ancient History, and the History of Europe to the end of the Eighteenth Century.

The Examination in MATHEMATICS AND NATURAL PHILOSOPHY shall include the following subjects:

Algebra, including the Theory of Equations.

The Examination in BRANCH III. shall be left to the discretion of the Examiners.

The Candidates who pass to the satisfaction of the Examiners shall be arranged in the order of proficiency;

and Candidates shall be bracketed together unless the Examiners are of opinion that there is a clear difference between them.

If in the opinion of the Examiners any Candidate shall possess sufficient merit, the Candidate who shall distinguish himself the most in Branch I., the Candidate who shall distinguish himself the most in Branch II., and the Candidate who shall distinguish himself the most in Branch III., shall each receive a Gold Medal of the value of Twenty Pounds; and if the same Candidate distinguish himself the most in two or more of the said branches, he shall receive a Gold Medal in right of each branch in which he shall so distinguish himself.

The Examination in Branch I. shall take place in the first week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; in the Morning from Ten to One, and in the Afternoon from Three to Six.

The Examination in Branch II. shall take place in the next week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; in the Morning from Ten to One, and in the Afternoon from Three to Six.

The Examination in Branch III. shall take place in the third week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; in the Morning from Ten to One, and in the Afternoon from Three to Six.

EXAMINATION IN THE HEBREW TEXT OF THE OLD TESTAMENT, IN THE GREEK TEXT OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, AND IN SCRIPTURE HISTORY.

This Examination shall take place once a year.

No Candidate shall be admitted to this Examination unless he have previously obtained the Degree of B.A. in this University.

The Examination shall be conducted entirely by means of Printed Papers.

Each Examiner shall have the power of putting a Veto upon any question.

No question shall be put to any Candidate bearing upon any doctrinal point disputed between Christians and Christians; and no question shall be put so as to require an expression of religious belief on the part of the Candidate.

No answer or translation given by any Candidate shall be objected to on the ground of its expressing any peculiarity of doctrinal views.

Candidates shall be examined in the following subjects:

1. THE HEBREW TEXT OF THE BOOK OF GENESIS. 2. THE GREEK TEXT OF THE GOSPEL OF ST. LUKE.

Candidates who show a competent knowledge in any two out of the four subjects of Examination shall be approved by the Examiners.

The Examination shall take place on Monday and Tuesday in the week following the conclusion of the Examination for Honours in Classics at the Degree of B.A.; in the Morning from Ten to One, and in the Afternoon from Three to Six.

In the course of the following week the Examiners shall publish a list of the Candidates who have passed.

The Candidates shall be divided into Three Classes according to their proficiency, and alphabetically arranged in each class; and Books to the value of Five Pounds shall be awarded to each of the First Class.

A further Examination shall be instituted in the Hebrew Text of the Old Testament, the Greek Text of the New Testament, in the Evidences of the Christian Religion, and in Scripture History, for those who have passed this Examination at least Two Years previously.

LAWS.

[Candidates for Degrees in Laws, in any year, must give notice of their intentions to the Registrar before the 15th of April of that year.]

BACHELOR OF LAWS.

The Examination for the Degree of BACHELOR OF LAWS shall take place annually in the last fourteen days of June.

No Candidate shall be admitted to the Examination for the Degree of LL.B. until after the expiration of One academical Year from the time of his obtaining the Degree of B.A. in this University or in one other of the Universities of the United Kingdom.

Persons who have taken the Degree of M.B. in this University shall, if otherwise qualified under the Charter, be admitted as Candidates for the Degree of LL.B.

The Certificates shall be transmitted to the Registrar at least fourteen days before the Examination begins.

The Fee for the Degree of LL.B. shall be Ten Pounds. No Candidate shall be admitted to the Examination unless he have previously paid this Fee to the Registrar. If a Candidate fail to pass the Examination, the Fee shall not be returned to him, but he shall be admissible to any subsequent Examination for the same Degree without the payment of any additional Fee.

The Examination shall be conducted entirely by means of Printed Papers.

Candidates for the Degree of Bachelor of Laws shall be examined in the following subjects:

STEPHEN'S BLACKSTONE.

THE THREE PORTIONS OF DUMONT'S EDITION OF BENT-
HAM'S MORALS AND LEGISLATION WHICH CONTAIN
THE PRINCIPLES OF LEGISLATION, THE PRINCIPLES
OF A CIVIL CODE, AND THE PRINCIPLES OF A CRI-
MINAL CODE.

The Examination of the Candidates shall take place on two days, in the Morning from Ten to One, and in the Afternoon from Three to Six; and the Candidates shall be examined in Stephen's Blackstone on the first day, and in Dumont's Bentham on the second day.

In the following week the Examiners shall arrange in Two Divisions, each in alphabetical order, such of the Candidates as have passed.

EXAMINATION FOR HONOURS.

Any Candidate who has passed may be examined for Honours.

Candidates for Honours shall be examined in one or more of the following subjects:

PRINCIPLES OF LEGISLATION.
CONVEYANCING.

LAW OF THE COURTS OF EQUITY.

LAW OF THE COURTS OF COMMON LAW.

ROMAN LAW, AND THE LAW OF THE ADMIRALTY AND
ECCLESIASTICAL COURTS.

The Examination shall take place in the first fourteen. days of July.

In determining the relative position of the Candidates, the Examiners shall have regard to the proficiency evinced by them at the LL.B. Examination.
