Benvras, Lord of Maesbrwg.1 If this is correct, Idnerth Benvras must have been contemporary with Owain ab Howel Dda, who was King of Powys and South Wales from 948 to 985. He could not, therefore, have been the son of Uchtryd ab Edwin, who was Lord of Cyveiliog, Penllyn, and Meiriawn in 1113. Einion Evell died in 1196. His wife is said to have been Arddun, daughter of Madog Vychan ab Madog ab Einion Hael ab Ürien of Maen Gwynedd, by whom he had a son and heir

Rhun ab Einion of Llwyn y Maen, Lord of Cynllaith. He married Elizabeth, daughter of John, Lord L'Estrange of Knockyn, by whom he had a son and heir

Cuhelyn ab Rhun of Llwyn y Maen, and Lloran Uchav in the parish of Llansilin in Cynllaith. This last place he rebuilt in 1233. He married Eva, daughter and heiress of Goronwy ab Cadwgan y Saethydd, Lord of Henvachau in Mochnant. This Cadwgan bore argent, a chevron gules, inter three pheons pointed to the centre sable, and was the son of Rhirid ab Cadwgan ab Rhirid, a younger son of Bleddyn ab Cynvyn, Prince of Powys. By this lady Cuhelyn had issue a son and heir

Ieuav ab Cuhelyn of Llwyn y Maen and Lloran, Lord of Cynllaith, who married Eva, daughter of Adda ab Awr ab leuav ab Cuhelyn, Lord of Trevor in Nanheudwy, by whom he had issue two sons,-1, Madog Goch, who had Lloran and all the lands belonging to his father in Cynllaith; 2, Ieuav Vychan; and a daughter, Margaret, ux. Maredydd Llwyd, sixth Baron of Main in Meivod, ab Ieuan ab Llywelyn Vychan ab Llywelyn ab Madog ab Iorwerth Vychan ab Iorwerth Goch, Baron of Tre'r Main, part of Burgedin and Whittington, and Cae Howel, and son of Maredydd ab Bleddyn, Prince of Powys.

Ieuav Vychan, the second son, who was Constable of Knockyn Castle, had Llwyn y Maen and Llanvorda for his share of the estates. He married Hawys, daughter and heiress of Einion, an illegitimate son of William, 1 Lewys Dunn, vol. ii, p. 27.

Lord of Mawddwy, fourth son of Gruffydd ab Gwenwynwyn, Prince of Upper Powys. Einion married Gwervyl, daughter and heiress of Owain, third son of Sir Roger de Powys, Lord of Whittington and Knight of Rhodes; Einion's daughter Hawys, after the death of her first husband, Ieuav Vychan, married, secondly, Sir John de Upton of Hanmer, Knight, Constable of Caernarvon Castle. Ieuav Vychan had issue, by his wife Hawys, two daughters, co-heirs

I. Annesta, ux. Meurig Llwyd. She had Llwyn y Maen and Llanvorda.

II. Eva. She married, first, Llywelyn Voelgrwn, seventh Baron of Main in Meivod, who bore argent, a lion passant sable, in a border indented gules; and, secondly, she married Ednyved ab Ithel ab Goronwy, descended from Eunydd, Lord of Dyffryn Clwyd, Trevalun, and Y Groesffordd.

Cynwrig ab Bleddyn of Havod Unnos, in the parish of Llangernyw; ancestor of the Lloyds of Havod Unnos, of Palan in the parish of Llanddervel in Penllyn, the Lloyds of Erw Gwy. ddel in Llansannan, the Lloyds of Bach Eurig in Llanvair Dyffryn Clwyd, the Lloyds of Porchill in Henllan, the Lloyds of Cilcain, and the Wynns of Bryn Cynwrig."

The above-named Meurig Llwyd, "finding himself and his tenants much oppressed by the English laws, did kill one of the judges, and hang divers other officers on oak trees in Uwch Dulas; on which account his lands and inheritance in Rhuvoniog escheated to the Crown, and so still remain, for the most part, to this day, and are known by the name of Tir Meurig Llywd; whereupon he withdrew for his safety to the sanctuary of Halston, and then put himself under the protection of John FitzAlan, Lord of Oswestry and Clun or Colynwy, and afterwards Earl of Arundel, who died 52nd Henry III (1268).

Meurig was made captain over a number of soldiers gathered in the marches of Wales. With these he went to the Continent, and for certain services rendered in the wars he was rewarded by the Emperor with a new coat of arms, viz., argent, an eagle displayed with two necks sable.

On his return to Wales he married Annesta, the eldest daughter and co-heir of Ieuav Vychan of Llwyn y Maen and Llanvorda, in the lordship of Oswestry, by whom he had issue a son and heir

Robert Lloyd of Llwyn y Maen and Llanvorda, who died 10th September 1498. He married Margaret, Arglwyddes y Vantell a'r Vodrwy (Lady of the Mantle and Ring), daughter of John Edwards Hên of Plâs Newydd, in the lordship of Chirk, and Receiver of that lordship in the reign of Henry VII, by whom he had issue, besides a daughter, Gwenh wyvar, ux. David Lloyd ab Elisau of Allt Llwyn Dragon, now called Plâs yn Iâl (ermine, a saltier gules, a crescent or for difference), two

sons

1. John Lloyd, upon whom his father settled Llanvorda; living 1544.

II. Edward Lloyd, who had Llwyn y Maen.

Edward Lloyd of Llwyn y Maen was Constable of Oswestry Castle, and Captain under either Thomas FitzAlan, twelfth Earl of Arundel, who died 16th Henry VIII (1525), or his son William, the thirteenth Earl, who died 35th Henry VIII (1543). Edward Lloyd's will was dated 14th November, and proved 16th December 1544. He married Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Richard Stanney of Oswestry, by whom he had issue three sons and six daughters

1. Richard Lloyd, of whom presently.

11. John Lloyd of Drenewydd, in the lordship of Whittington.

II. Hugh Lloyd. He married Gwen, third daughter and co-heir of David Lloyd of Blaen Iâl, in the parish of Bryn Eglwys, descended from Ithel Velyn, Lord of Iâl and Ystrad Alun (sable, on a chevron inter three goat's heads erased or, three trefoils of the field), and by this marriage he became possessed of the Blaen Iâl estate, which still belongs to his heir and representative, the present Mrs. Townsend Mainwaring of Blaen Iâl and Gallt Vaenan.

The six daughters of Edward Lloyd were-1, Margaret, ux. Edward Kynaston of Hordley; 2, Jane, ux. Richard Trevor ab Thomas Trevor of Trevlech; 3, Eleanor, ux. Thomas Evans of Aston and Oswestry, AttorneyGeneral for the Court of the Marches; 4, Janet, ux.
