Again he makes their cities thrive,
And bids the dying churches live.
Blaspheme the God, that saints adore. 9 How few with pious care record
These wondrous dealings of the Lord !
PSALM 108. First Part. L. M:
Praise to God for his care of the church. 1 A GAIN, my tongue thy silence break,
My heart, and all my pow'rs, awake; My tongue, the glory of my frame,
Awake, and sing Jehovah's name. 2 O'er heav'n exalted is his throne;
In ev'ry world his glory shown:
From death, and sorrow, and the grave. 3 Ye kingdoms, hear his awful voice!
“ In Zion shall my heart rejoice;
- And make their scatter'd strength a prey. 4 “ Mine are the sons of Zion, mine “ Their glory, grace, and truth divine;
My sceptre shines in Judah's hands, “And still my strength in Ephraim stands. 5 “ My foes to ruin shall be giv'n,
“ The shame of earth, the scorn of heav'n; “ Their eyes shall see my church prevail ; “ Their strength shall shrink, their courage
6 0 thou, beneath whose sov'reign sway
Nations, and worlds, in dust decay,
Thine aid denied, thy presence gone ; 7 Yet wilt thou still with love return;
With duty teach our hearts to burn;
And bid thy fainting children live.
From ev'ry snare, and ev'ry foe,
Fervent praise. 1 A WAKE my soul, with fervent praise,
Awake my heart to sing ;
And morning incense bring. 2 Among the people of his care,
And thro' the nations round,
And high his name resound. 3 Be thou exalted, O my God,
Above the starry train ;
And teach the world thy reign. 4 The church is thine ; thou wilt maintain
Her cause in ev'ry age :
Against her rights engage.
And throng thy courts above;
And taste redeeming love.
PSALM 109. C. M. Love to enemics, from the example of Christ. 1 OD of my mercy and my praise,
Thy glory is my song; Tho’sinners speak against thy grace
With a blaspheming tongue. 2 When in the form of mortal man
Thy Son on earth was found; With cruel slanders false and vain,
They compass'd him around. 3 Their mis'ries his compassion move,
Their peace he still pursu'd; They render hatred for his love,
And evil for his good.
Yet with his dying breath,
And blest his foes in death.
In vain before my eyes ?
To love mine enemies.
And in my Saviour's name,
The success of the gospel.
To Christ the Son ; “ Ascend and sit “ At my right hand, till I shall make
Thy foes submissive at thy feet.
Thy word, the sceptre in thy hand,
“Shall make the hearts of rebels bleed, “ And bow their wills to thy command. 3 “ That day shall show thy pow'r is great;
“ When saints shall flock with willing minds, " And sinners crowd thy temple-gate,
“Where holiness in beauty shines.
Christ's kingdom and priesthood.
And make thy foes submit.
Thy converts shall surpass
And own thy sov’reign grace.
Nor changes what he swore :
- When Aaron is no more.
“ That king of high degree; " That holy man, whom Abraham blest,
“ Was but a type of thee.” 5. Jesus our Priest, forever lives,
To plead for us above ;
The blessings of his love.
His lofty throne maintain ;
JESHIS the Priest ascends the throne ;
And strike the pow'rs and princes dead,
The council of peace. 1
Proceed with honour and success. 2 Thro’ the whole earth his reign shall spread,
And crush the pow'rs that dare rebel :
And send the guilty world to hell.
He drinks the cup of tears and blood;
The wisdom of God in his works. 1
my He hath my heart, and he my tongue,
To spread his name abroad. 2 How great the works, his hand hath wrought?
How glorious in our sight!
His wonders with delight.
How wise th' Eternal mind!
That his first thoughts design'd. 4 When he redeem'd his chosen sons,
He fix'd his coy'nant sure:
To endless years endure,
SONGS of immortal praise belong
