2 How sweet are the flow'rets of April and May! But often the frost makes them wither away; Like flowers you may fade-are you ready to die ? While yet there is room, to a Saviour fly. 3 When Samuel was young he first knew the Lord, He slept in His smile and rejoiced in His word; So most of God's children are early brought nigh; Oh, seek Him in youth,--to a Saviour fly! 4 Do you ask me for pleasure? Then lean on His breast, For there the sin-laden and weary find rest. 261 1 PET. I. 11.-" The sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow." 1 To Calv'ry, Lord, in spirit now 2 Sweet resting-place of every heart 3 There, through thine hour of deepest woe, Grace there its wondrous victory gain'd, 4 Dear suffering Lamb! Thy bleeding wounds, With cords of love divine, Have drawn our willing hearts to Thee, 5 Thy sympathies and hopes are ours; 6 Our longing eyes would fain behold Once wrung with bitterest anguish, wear 7 Why linger then? Come, Saviour, come, Come, claim thine ancient power, and reign, 262 1 PET. II. 21.-" Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that we should follow His steps." 1 O LORD, when we the path retrace, Thy love, by man so sorely tried, 2 Faithful amidst unfaithfulness, Thou didst Thy Father's name confess, Unmoved by Satan's subtle wiles, Thy path, uncheer'd by earthly smiles, 2 O Lord, with sorrow and with shame, How little we, who bear Thy name, Give us Thy meek, Thy lowly mind: And all our rest and pleasure find, 263 1 PET. II. 21.—“ Leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps." 1 LAMB of God, I look to Thee, 2 Due obedience Thou didst show, 3 Let me, above all, fulfil God, my heav'nly Father's will; 4 Loving Jesus, holy Lamb, Р 5 Teach me to show forth Thy praise, 264 1 PET. II, 25.-" Ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." 1 I WAS a wand'ring sheep, I did not love my Shepherd's voice, I was a wayward child, I did not love my home; I did not love my Father's voice, 2 The Shepherd sought His sheep, Famished, and faint, and lone; They bound me with the bands of love; 3 They spoke in tender love, They raised my drooping head: They gently closed my bleeding wounds, They washed my filth away, They made me clean and fair; They brought me to my home in peace,- 4 Jesus my Shepherd is, 'Twas 'He that loved my soul, 'Twas He that washed me in His blood, 5 I was a wandering sheep, But now I love my Shepherd's voice, I was a wayward child; I once preferr'd to roam; But now I love my Father's voice,- 265 2 PET. III. 18.-" To Him be glory, both now and for ever." 1 WE sing the praise of Jesus, the holy Lamb of God, Who came from Heaven to bless us, and shed for us His blood: Who died in awful anguish, upon the cross, that we Might live to sing His praises throughout eter nity. 2 We sing the praise of Jesus, tho' once on earth He taught, He's now in Heaven and sees us, and knows our every thought: He will not frown upon us, altho' to Him we raise Our sinful hearts and voices, in one sweet song of praise. |
