3 We sing the praise of Jesus, who did our souls redeem, Who welcomed little children when they were brought to Him: He kindly spoke, and told them that they for Him had charms, And then He did enfold them, and bless'd them, in His arms. 266 1 Jo. 1. 7.-"If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another." 1 WALK in the light! so shalt thou know That fellowship of love, His Spirit only can bestow Who reigns in light above. The blood of Jesus Christ the Lord, 2 Walk in the light! and thou shalt find Who dwells in cloudless light enshrined, Walk in the light! and thou shalt own Because that light hath on thee shone, 3 Walk in the light! and e'en the tomb Walk in the light! and thou shalt see For God, by grace, shall dwell in thee, 267 1 Jo. II. 8.-" The darkness is past, and the true light now shineth." 1 'Tis past, the dark and dreary night, Our Morning Star, without a cloud Thy path on earth, the cross, the grave, Thy sorrows all are o'er; And oh! sweet thought! thy eye shall weep, 2 Deep were those sorrows-deeper still The soldier, as he pierc'd Thee, prov'd While in the blood that stain'd the spear, 3 Drawn from Thy pierc'd and bleeding side, Yet, 'tis not that we know the joy Of cancell'd sin alone, But, happier far, Thy saints are call'd To share Thy glorious throne. 4 So closely are we link'd in love, Yes, when the storm of life is calm'd- Our way-worn hearts shall find in Thee 268 1 Jo. II. 28.-" Abide in Him." 1 CLING to the Crucified! His death is life to thee,— His pains thy pardon seal; It purges thee from sin; It keeps thy conscience clean. 2 Cling to the Crucified! His countenance is light, That love shall never change, That light shall ne'er grow dim ; Cling to the Crucified! 269 1 Jo. III. 2.-" We shall see him as He is." 1 FOR ever to behold Him shine, 2 Not all things else are half so dear 3 But how will His celestial voice 270 1 Jo. IV. 10.-" Herein is love." 1 O, BLESSED love! wert thou but known, They toil, and none thy sweetness knows. 2 O love! would all submit to give To Thee the honour of the whole; 271 1 Jo. IV. 17.-" As He is, so are we in this world." 1 A PILGRIM through this lonely world A mourner all His life was He, That tender heart that felt for all, It found on earth no resting-place, 2 Such was our Lord.-and shall we fear That wreathed his brow with thorn? We homeward press, thro' storm or calm, 3 In tents we dwell, amid the waste, In folly's paths, nor seek our rest Dead to the world, with Him who died To win our hearts-our love, We, risen with our risen Head, In spirit dwell above. 4 By faith, His boundless glories there Those glories which eternal years This fills our hearts with deep desire Bears all our hopes from earth away, |
